Geiriau: Y Bardd Penwaig
In a high-stakes encounter at Cae’r Delyn, second-place Nefyn United and Nantlle Vale in third played out a grueling, tactical draw on Tuesday night.
While the scoreboard remained untouched, the match was a testament to Nefyn’s defensive resilience and the high-pressure environment of the title race.
The tone was set in the first half following a rare lapse in the Nefyn defensive line. With a Nantlle Vale attacker bearing down 1-on-1, Alex Ward Jones produced a fantastic save to keep the game level. It was a defining moment that reinforced why Ward Jones is the league’s premier shot-stopper.
Outside of that singular scare, the home defence was impeccable. Outstanding captain Llyr Pennant Williams delivered another masterclass in leadership, marshalling his troops and repelling the Vale threat with clinical efficiency.
Nefyn had their windows of opportunity. The dynamic front 3 of Steffan Toplis, Tomi Evans and Rhys Williams, all found sights of goal, but a combination of desperate defending and narrow margins kept the visitors in the hunt.
The dynamic shifted in the 72nd minute when Vale’s Nathan Palmer saw red, picking up two yellow cards in a reckless three-minute window. However, despite the numerical advantage for the final 20 minutes, Nefyn failed to capitalise.
While Nefyn will be frustrated not to have taken all three points against 10 men, the result does more damage to Nantlle Vale’s title ambitions.
The gap remains, the clean sheet is preserved, and the pressure is now firmly on the visitors to find a miracle in the closing weeks.
