Knighton booked a trip to Ardal North West leaders CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 in the semi-finals of the Lock Stock Ardal North League Cup following a 3-1 victory over Llay Miners Welfare at Bryn-y-Castell on Saturday, reports Stuart Townsend.

The visitors broke the deadlock when Liam Griffiths in the Radnor Robins’ goal came out of his penalty area to head the ball away but it was returned into his net following a first-time effort from nearly 30 yards out by Lewis Fearns.

The hosts were only behind for eight minutes when Jack Hoyle was on hand to turn the ball home at the far post following a Callum Stead corner.

It was beginning to appear that the outcome of this quarter-final would be decided from the penalty spot but substitute Luke Boundford had other ideas after entering the fray on the hour mark.

Stead was denied by Cameron Dutton when he raced into the Welfare penalty area in the 76th minute but Boundford was in the right place to fire the rebound into an unguarded net from just outside the box.

The former Aberystwyth Town and Newtown striker then secured victory for the Radnor Robins with three minutes remaining of normal time when he lifted the ball over Dutton after being picked out in space in the area by Taylor Wozencraft.

Two goals early in the second half from prolific hitman Meilir Williams ensured Llanuwchllyn advanced to the Ardal North League Cup final on Saturday afternoon.

Williams was also in on the goal action in the first half as his assist enabled 19-year-old Gwydion Roberts to make it 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Soon following the restart, Llanuwchllyn had one foot firmly in the final.

Roberts assisted on both occasions as Williams notched his 44th and 45th goals of the season after 47 and 52 minutes respectively.

Trearddur gave it their all, but were second best on the day to the Ardal North East runaway leaders.
