Felinheli’s two scorers on Sunday share the same christian name as famous rivers – Shannon and Alaw
Alaw Huws hit a dazzling hat-trick as Felinheli rounded off their league campaign with a classy 4-2 win over Llandudno at Cae Seilo.
Guaranteed a fourth-place finish, Felin also completed a double against Tudno having triumphed 2-1 at Go Goodwins Stadium back in October.
Star of the show was Huws, who made it six goals in her last three matches.
Felin started quickly with plenty of pace and moving the ball fast. Huws and Llywela Edwards looked dangerous from the off.
On the 20 minute mark, Shannon Jones won a strong tackle on the halfway line and played a great ball upfield for Huws to chase.
Fantastic individual work from Huws saw her carry the ball past defenders, go one on one with the keeper, and slot home very tidily.
Felin’s second came early in the second half. Again there was some fantastic individual work from Shannon Jones to carry the ball up the pitch, crossing into the box perfectly for Huws to find the bottom corner.
A well deserved goal for Shannon Jones made it 3-0. After assisting twice, Jones was the first to react after a great save from Llandudno’s keeper. The ball fell to Shannon’s feet and she hit the target brilliantly from outside the box.
Felin’s fourth came via a brilliant free kick from Edwards, lifting a dangerous ball into the box, Llandudno failed to clear and the first to react was Huws, striking the ball against the post and then bouncing into the back of the net. 4-0 to Felin.
Some tired legs and a few injuries forced Felin to make 4 substitutions around the 70 mark.
Llandudno also made some strong changes and they certainly made their impact on the game. Sofie Owen strengthened the back line and Olivia Rigby and Amelia Mercer showed plenty of attacking talent.
Maddie Williams was first to react from a corner to Llandudno, and slotted into the back of the net. Fantastic individual work from Rigby, shooting from outside the box and into the top corner. made it 4-2.
Llandudno never gave up and kept pushing, but Felin held out without conceding another.
Coach Llio Emyr said: “A brilliant performance to end our league campaign. All we wanted today was a performance and that’s what we had! Extremely proud of the girls as scoring 4 past a strong Llandudno side isn’t easy.
“This will help us push on to the final game of the season, a (North Wales Coast Challenge Cup) semi final against Kinmel Bay in just over a week.”
“I think probably the best sportswoman moment I have seen in football was when our player Shannon Jade Jones suffered an ankle injury in a late tackle and Llandudno goalkeeper Megan Robinson fair play picked her up and carried her from near the halfway line down to the changing rooms. Hats off to the thoughtful and kind-spirited Llandudno goalie.”
