Alaw Prys Huws led the way with a hat-trick as Felinheli marched into the semi-finals of the NWCFA Challenge Cup on Wednesday.
In difficult conditions at Cae Bob Parry which included first half hailstones, the tier 2 Genero Adran North visitors did what was expected of them and defeated their third-tier North Wales Women’s League hosts comfortably.
However, Cefni put up a good battle and were certainly much improved from when they met Felinheli in a friendly last summer.
Fflur Williams handed the visitors an eighth minute lead, but Town were level on 22 when a Ffion Thomas corner dropped to Catrin George, who fired in the equaliser.
Two minutes later, 17-year-old prospect Iona Sloan-Lewis edged the green and yellows back in front.
Alaw Huws then bagged her first after 36 and just before the break Fflur Williams completed a double.
Llangefni had to do without top-scorer Jen Cox in the first half due to work commitments, but the striker came on after 56 minutes for skipper Nia Ginnelly and immediately boosted the home attack.
Before that, however, Alaw Huws and Sloan-Lewis had both struck to put the visitors 6-1 to the good.
Several substitutions took place before Alaw Huws made it a personal treble with 70 minutes on the clock.
And Huws turned provider for Ffion Williams to make it 8-1 in added time at the end of the 90.
A nice little side tale was the introduction of 16-year-old Kyla Cain for Felinheli in the second half. This meant three Cain sisters were on the field – Kyla and Jody for the visitors and Lara for Llangefni.
Jody ended up marking eldest sister Lara in the closing minutes, which the younger Cain admitted “was fun”.
