Club transfer focus: CPD Caer Clwyd

Caer Clwyd goalkeeper John Wood is looking forward to working alongside some new team mates

One of the busiest clubs in the January transfer window has been North Wales Coast East Division One club Caer Clwyd.

Here’s a rundown on some of their new faces.

Ashley Andrews

Age: 25

Position: Central midfielder/holding

Ashley says: “I played for Denbigh all the way up till the age of 20 and represented their reserve team for a while. Also had short spells at Trefnant, St Asaph and most recently played for Henllan for the last year and a half and now I’ve decided to join Caer Clwyd!

“I feel that I can bring a lot to the club, I’ve got a good range of passing and can offer a physical presence in central midfield. I feel I can help the club with their promotion ambitions and will try my best to make that possible.”

Managers Comments: “Ashley scored against us this season for Henllan and had an outstanding game. He’s a well rounded player and offers many attributes in midfield. We are thrilled he’s chosen to join us and look forward to working with him.”

James Harrison

Age: 30

Position: Centre back

James says: “Played for Ruthin my whole career. At 16 I played for the college second team and won the double with Ruthin, league and cup.

“I then progressed and broke into the first team at Llandrillo Academy and got to travel all round Wales and England. Played for Ruthin till the age of 23 then due to work commitments I had to stop for a couple of years. Got back into football because of John Wood, who I joined up at Henllan with. I have also played for Rhyl All Stars, Llanelwy and Bow FC.

“I have re-joined John at Caer Clwyd and really feel this team has the potential in the near future to progress into tier 4 – and hope I can play a role in that.”

Managers comments: “We are thrilled James decided to join Caer Clwyd as he had plenty of offers on the table and could have joined a number of clubs. After watching James play for a while now it’s clear he’s a dominant figure in defence and a real leader. Again James is another player that will play a major role in this club’s ambitions.”

Name:Liam Davies

Age: 25

Position: Centre Back

Liam says: “Played winter and summer league and then took a break this year but missed football too much so reached out to join Caer.
“Best trait: heading in a league where games are close most weeks, set pieces could be the difference.
“What I feel I can bring to the club: communication on the pitch after my training session and games. I feel I can really help Clwyd and their ambition.”

Managers comments: “Delighted to have Liam join us, he’s a great lad and has plenty of experience playing in tier 5. He’s a composed player and leads very well. Looking forward to working more with him.”

Name: Eddie Evans

Age: 24

Position: winger/central midfielder

Eddie Evans (or is it a young Phil Tuffnell?)

Eddie says: “Started off playing summer league when I was 16 after not playing football for years, then Jimmy McNally asked me to sign for the winter league side (Llandyrnog) where I spent 4/5 seasons until now joining Caer Clwyd

“My best trait: my desire to win. I hate losing whether its training or a match.

“What I feel I can bring to the club: After only being in 2 training sessions with the lads it’s obvious we’ve got a real good group and feel we should be a lot higher in the table than we are, i’m hoping I can bring something to the team to help push on for promotion.”

Managers comments: “We are really happy to have Eddie join us from Llandyrnog. The first training session it was clear that he will play a key role in Caer Clwyd’s transition and ambition for the future.

His work rate and attitude are traits any manager would love to have. We look forward to working and watching Eddie develop.”
