LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH EAST LEAGUE REPORTS – MARCH 14

Corwen 3 Penycae 5

Dominic Deacon was a hat-trick hero for a Penycae side which picked up a much-needed win after scooping just eight points from a possible last 33.
Despite being on such a barren run, the Wrexham outfit still occupy fourth place in Ardal North East, although they have played more games than everyone else.
An eight-goal cracker saw Penycae storm into a 5-0 lead before a late Corwen rally cut the final arrears to just two.
In the fifth minute Deacon went for a goal with a low shot from outside the penalty area which looked as if was covered by debutant goalkeeper Cai Pugh; however the ball skipped under him and went into the back of the net break the deadlock.
At the opposite end Henry Evans let fly from the edge of the box, but the effort was saved by Jordan Ellis.
With 18 minutes on the clock, Deacon spotted Pugh off his line and shot at goal from way out. The ball curled up and over the Corwen keeper before kissing the underside of the crossbar and going in to double the visitors lead.
Deacon completed his hat-trick two minutes later via a firmly-hit strike.
The away side came close to extending their lead from a corner; however Benjamin Wilson-Davies was on hand to clear the ball off the line.
A pinpoint cross into the Corwen box from Zac Davies in the 32nd minute saw Callum Roberts leap into the air and head an unstoppable missile into the top corner to make the score 4-0.
After the interval Ellis played a low cross back towards Zac Davies who curled a low shot in off the far post for Penycae’s fifth goal of the afternoon.
Deacon went in search of his fourth goal, but his attempt clipped the crossbar and rebounded into the path of Davies, whose resulting shot was gathered by Pugh.
Trailing 5-0 with 73 minutes gone, the hosts finally got on the board when James Davies put the ball into the path of Kian Harrison, who blasted home.
Davies got another assist three minutes later as he played the ball across the Penycae box, leading to Lewis Wills lashing in.
Two minutes later James Rainbird whipped a corner where Oliver Crimp leapt to get his head to the ball and looked as if he was going to make the next step towards a remarkable comeback, but saw his effort smash against the bar.
In stoppage time, Davies looked set to make it 6-2, but a great save from replacement keeper Danny Jones kept him at bay.
The last action of the game saw Scott Evans run at the Penycae goal before dragging the ball back to Crimp, who blasted home to reduce the deficit to two and cap a much improved second half performance from the home side.
