JD CYMRU NORTH – REPORTS AND TABLE FEBRUARY 24-25

Ruthin Town 0
Airbus UK Broughton 4 (Peers 39, Cooke 43, Cox OG 48, Warren 77)

A magnificent seventh straight league win for Airbus ensured they kept leaders Llandudno in their sights.

This fixture was originally scheduled for Friday evening, but a waterlogged pitch put paid to that, however the game was rearranged quickly for Wednesday at the Memorial Playing Fields.

Kaiden Cooke tested home keeper Daniel Goldston very early on and Danny Warren’s follow up was deflected into the glovesman’s hands.

Ruthin threatened from a corner when the ball fell to Llyr Morris on the edge of the box but his effort was deflected wide.

Cooke’s pace then enabled him to get off a shot with the outside of his foot in the box, but Goldston saved with his feet.

Airbus broke the deadlock on 39 minutes. Jordan Evans and Cooke combined well and the former’s pinpoint cross into the boxwas finished off by George Peers for his 22nd goal of the campaign.

Goldston prevented a third with a great save from an Evans strike before the break.

HALF-TIME: Ruthin 0-2 Airbus

Early in the second half, Evans’ cross was deflected into his own net by Dan Cox, giving the Wingmakers a three-goal cushion.

The visitors were in control abnd added a fourth on 77. Dan Collins found Warren, whose first touch took him away from Cox and he finished across Goldston into the bottom corner.

Tom Stephens’ header from an Anthony Stephens corner late in the first half was enough to earn three points for the leaders.

Tudno made it 19 wins in 22 league starts and look well on course for a second Tier 2 title in the club’s history.

The visitors created a couple of good chances in the first half, Mark Cadwallader’s shot being well saved by keeper Dominic Garner before Aidan Higgins fired one just wide.

Stephens’ goal came at a good time for Llandudno, who continued to threaten throughout the second half, Garner denying Higgins with a great stop.

Mountain were always in the contest but were unable to break down the watertight Tudno defence.

The hosts had Adam Newbould sent off for a second yellow on 82 minutes.
