NORTH WALES COAST EAST: Well done Glan Conwy – first win of season! Mochdre advance to Cookson semis

North Wales Coast East League reports – JANUARY 24
PREMIER DIVISION

Rhos United 1 Glan Conwy 3

Hats off to Glan Conwy – winners in the league for the first time this season at the 16th attempt.
There have been hints for a few weeks that this type of result was on the cards.
Glan have been playing well, pushing opponents close, and despite 15 straight losses while in the basement position they could certainly never be classed as no-hopers.
It came good for the Cae Ffwt men on Saturday at next-to-bottom Rhos United.
After a goalless first half, the deadlock was broken at Eirias Park on 58 minutes when 17-year-old Franky Gughrill found the net with his ninth goal of the season, John Gardner with the assist.
Gardner was the supplier again on 79 minutes when Glan made it 2-0, Lewis Brownson this time on target. It was sub Brownson’s fourth goal this term, but this is a man who netted 24 times in 23 appearances in 2024-25 for Glan.
He moved to Conwy Borough Swifts for a spell that season, but returned to Cae Ffwt in January 2025.
There was temporary concern for Glan when Adam Williams replied for Rhos with 81 on the clock, but captain Mezz Knight soon sealed the points by making it 3-1, Gughrill this time assisting.
Great to see Glan Conwy off the mark.
CPD Bro Cernyw 1 CPD Llansannan 2
Llansannan returned to the summit with a narrow victory at Bro Cernyw.
No goals in the first half, but Lewys Jones made the breakthrough for Llan in the 69th minute.
Sub Tom Seddon doubled the lead with 77 gone before Bro set up an interesting finish when Liam Daly converted an 84th minute penalty.
Conwy Borough Swifts 0 Kinmel Bay 2
Kinmel Bay nudged into fourth place and made it 10 matches unbeaten with a two-goal success at Y Morfa.
Mason Richards put the visitors in front five minutes before the break and the spoils were secured when captain Mathew Beach added a second on 69.
Kinmel goalkeeper Ashley Lavender picked up a late injury, but replacement James Roberts came on and did a solid job between the posts.

DIVISION ONE

CPD Henllan 2 CPD Blue Bridge 3
Great result for Blue Bridge – just a second away win in their short history.
And the Rhyl side did it the hard way, recovering from going two-down inside nine minutes to edge the victory over nine-man Henllan.
Ryan Lowe handed the hosts a fourth-minute lead and soon after Josh Griffiths added another from a Keiran Kendrick assist.
It remained 2-0 up to half time, but when Leon Melling pulled one back for BB after 61, it changed the game.
Henllan went down to 10 when Oscar Price was sent off for a second yellow after 73, then four minutes from time, Charlie Thorley made it two-apiece, sub Ryan Sharp assisting.
Then in the 90th minute, captain Lewis Evans put Bridge in front, Kai Jones the chance supplier.
Things got worse for Henllan when their skipper, Ryan Williams, was dismissed for two yellows in the 91st minute.
One to remember for Blue Bridge, who are up to fifth in Division One.
Crozzy 3 Llandyrnog United 3
Crozzy fought back from 3-1 down to force a draw at the Go Goodwins Stadium.
Danny Talbot scored first for the hosts on 11 minutes, but replies from Kyle Lally, Michael Harrison and Luke Appleby had Dyrny 3-1 up with 49 gone.
The hosts refused to fold, Talbot’s second reducing the arrears on 53 before Jarod Jones levelled the contest after 57.
Plenty of time left for a winner, but it never arrived.
Llysfaen 3 Rhuddlan Town 3

Rhuddlan needed two stoppage time goals to grab a point and deny bottom side Llysfaen just a second win of the campaign.
New signing Mike Chapman made it 1-0 to the hosts after seven minutes and Steven Collins soon delivered number two.
Kai Paolucci cut the deficit to 2-1 after 64 minutes, but Collins’ second on 69 restored the two-goal home advantage.
When Rhuddlan captain and top-scorer Liam Bowers was sent off for two yellows on 71 minutes it appeared the away team’s goose was cooked.
But just like Wrexham at QPR on Saturday, Town struck twice in injury time.
Riley Patterson scored on 91 before Callum Lloyd made it three-apiece seven minutes over the 90.

COOKSON CUP QUARTER-FINAL
Mochdre Sports 3 Llanfairfechan Town 0
Mochdre joined Cerrigydrudion, Conwy Borough Swifts and Kinmel Bay in the Cookson semi-finals.
Three second-half goals ensured Sports eliminated Llanfairfechan on Saturday, Joshua Grimshaw ending the stalemate on 56, Niall Owen making it two after 85 and sub Thomas Wardle putting the icing on the cake four minutes into added time.
