He’s back! Eddie Maurice-Jones returns to Denbigh Town as first-team coach

Eddie Maurice-Jones has rejoined Denbigh Town as first team coach.

Former Town manager Maurice-Jones, 36, is back at Central Park, where he made such a major impact in his previous spell as boss between 2016-18, leading the club to its highest-ever Cymru Alliance League finish of second place in his second season at the helm.

The ex-Rhyl FC and Gresford Athletic chief now returns to Denbigh as part of Dewi Llion’s coaching staff, having already had a glance at the club this season in the weekend’s win over Brickfield.

He joins Town for a third spell, with the first coming as a player and later manager, and takes a new role at LL16.

“I’m delighted to be back involved at Denbigh Town Football, Club and I’m really looking forward to playing a part in the club’s journey moving forward,” said Maurice-Jones.

“After speaking with Dewi, it quickly became clear that joining his management team made perfect sense. We share the same values, the same understanding of what it takes to build a competitive and resilient team and the same ambition to continue developing this group of players.

“The developments at the ground are a clear sign of how far the club has come. It reflects a forward-thinking approach and a commitment to creating an environment that players, staff, and supporters can all be proud of. “I’ve received a warm welcome from everyone associated with the club. It’s been great to see so many familiar faces and to feel the strong sense of togetherness throughout.

Denbigh manager Dewi Llion said: “I’m thrilled to have Eddie come here to work with us.

“We’ve worked on developing the right structure and balance as a coaching staff, and Eddie completes that.

“He’s got an incredible depth of knowledge and I was lucky to develop as a coach myself during his tenure as manager eight years ago, and now to have him on board feels right.

“With Dan Sleet coming in recently to work on activation, Luke Wilmot taking the goalkeepers, Simon Roberts working closely with me, and now Eddie’s experience and quality, I believe this group can lay the foundations to move forward successfully”.

Maurice-Jones began his footballing career in the academy at Wrexham and later Liverpool, before beginning in the Welsh game with Wrexham-based Queen’s Park and later Gresford Athletic and Brymbo.

He joined Caersws before landing at Central Park for the first time in the summer of 2012, scoring 12 goals for the club as Town finished runners-up in the old Welsh Alliance.

After sustaining a serious injury, he took on the role of assistant manager to Rich Williams-Cooke, where the club earned promotion via an unbeaten season, before landing the job as Gresford Athletic manager in May 2014.

He spent two years at Clappers Lane where he earned a Welsh National (Wrexham Area) League and Cup double in his first year in charge, before a solid top-six finish in the second tier.

In November 2016 he was appointed manager of Denbigh Town at the age of 27, where he immediately changed the fortunes of the club, in his first full season achieving its highest ever finish in the Welsh Football system, runners-up in the Cymru Alliance in 2017/18 with a 63% win rate.

He departed the club for Rhyl in 2018, where he spent two years as director of football before the Lilywhites dissolved in 2020.

Eddie opted not to apply for the manager’s position at the new phoenix club CPD Y Rhyl 1879, instead deciding to return to Gresford for the 2020/21 Cymru North campaign.

That season was cancelled due to Covid, but in the next four campaigns with the Colliers, he led Athletic to 11th place twice and 10th on two occasions in the Tier 2 league before his departure in November 2025.
