Trearddur Bay Football Club have suspended defender Tom Taylor following an incident in Saturday’s match against Porthmadog.
Taylor was seen apparently swinging an elbow into the face of Porthmadog’s Danny Brookwell as a penalty was about to be taken in the Ardal North West match at Y Traeth.
The incident was filmed on a mobile phone and has attracted millions of views and widespread criticism on social media.
No red cards were issued in the match by referee Richard Gwyn Edwards, although Taylor was shown a yellow on the hour.
Taylor, 35, a Trearddur Bay player since 2024-25, has also represented Ynys Môn, as well as Porthmadog. Caernarfon Town, Pentraeth, Glantraeth, Holyhead Hotspur and Llangefni Town and spent time in the English pyramid at Halesowen, Stourbridge and Bromsgrove Sporting.
Trearddur Bay, who say the matter is now under police investigation, issued the following statement today: “Trearddur Bay FC wish to confirm that it has suspended Tom Taylor from immediate effect following an incident between tbfc and Porthmadog fc yesterday.
“As the matter is subject to a police investigation the club will not be making any further comment at this stage save that the club in no way condones the use of unlawful behaviour by its staff or players.”
The Football Association of Wales, under whose jurisdiction the Tier 3 Ardal North West falls, have confirmed they are investigating the matter.
