JD CYMRU NORTH – REPORTS, JANUARY 17

League

Brickfield Rangers 1 Denbigh Town 2

Report: Ollie Beech

Denbigh came from behind on Saturday to record their first win since November thanks to goals from Nathan Brown and Matthew Worrall.
After going a goal down against the run of play, Town rallied and finally took their chances in difficult conditions at Clywedog Park.
Dewi Llion was challenged in the build up when a late change to registration processes had new keeper Oli Farebrother, Dan Davies and Hari Roberts suddenly unavailable, and changes were made at late notice, including goalkeeper coach Luke Wilmot having to quickly throw together his kit and take his place between the sticks.
Despite the early setback, Town began well and carved out their first chance on 11 minutes when Brown tested the keeper one on one on the back of excellent build up play. Seven minutes later Worrall latched on to a Nathan Doforo cross, before hitting it on the turn and firing just wide.
The chances kept arriving, Gwion Dafydd crossing for Brown whose toe-poked effort hit the side netting. Alfie Vaughan was next two minutes later when he barged through before forcing the goalkeeper into a low stop.
Brickfield appeared to survive the early test, with Brown having a volley fly over just before the half hour mark, whilst Wilmot was called upon once to make a strong save one on one before the break.
Despite creating more, Town found themselves behind eight minutes into the second half.
A deep cross found Danny Jones who was able to touch the ball past Wilmot and give his side the lead.
Town restored parity on 68 minutes when the two Nathan’s, Brown and Doforo linked up. The latter kept the ball in well on the left before his cross found Brown to nudge the ball in to make it level.
Now looking for a winner Town continued to press, Dafydd’s shot from an angle ran across the goal where Brown picked it up, and from the tightest of windows flashed the ball off target. The intent was there and with 12 to play they found their crucial second. Brown was involved again who crossed for Worrall at the back stick to nod home.

Flint Mountain 2 Mold Alexandra 1

Two goals from Owen Cassidy earned Mountain a narrow and vital win at Go Goodwins Stadium.
The result moved the Flintshire side out of the bottom three and brought them level on points with Saturday’s opponents Mold.
Cassidy struck first in the seventh minute, Kieran Owens with the assist, but Matthew Lewis brought Mold level on 15.
Cassidy netted again after 32, Callum Woods this time the chance supplier.
No more goals in the second half, although Mountain’s Dominic Maher was dismissed on 71 for a second yellow, while Emmanuel Lawal received a red-card for the visitors after 86.

WELSH BLOOD SERVICE LEAGUE CUP QUARTER-FINALS

Airbus UK Broughton 2 Holywell Town 0

Regular hitmen Danny Warren and George Peers were on the mark as Airbus came out on top in the battle of the big guns.

Warren broke the deadlock four minutes before the break, Kaiden Cooke setting him up.

Cooke was again the provider on 64 as Peers pocketed his 20th goal of the campaign.

Holywell’s Jake Cooke was sent off for a second yellow after 70.

Newtown 1 Caersws 0

Tomas Jones’ 79th minute strike guided 10-man Newtown into the semi-finals.

The Robins were a man down from the 40th minute, when Steffan Jones was shown a second yellow.

Caersws had Tommy Rowlands red-carded in the 92nd minute.

Ruthin Town 1 Buckley Town 2

Loanee Bradley Barnes won a dramatic tie for Buckley with a 95th minute decider.

The 20-year-old Barnes has signed a temporary deal with Buckley from Connah’s Quay Nomads having spent the first part of the season on loan at Denbigh Town.

Bucks struck first at the Memorial Fields with an 80th minute penalty from Oliver Blayney, but Llyr Morris levelled on 84 before Barnes clinched it for the visitors.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 0 Guilsfield 1

Sam Flory’s 76th minute spot-kick won the day for Guilsfield at the Hops and Barley Community Stadium.
