A remarkable piece of history was made on Friday night as Airbus UK Broughton suffered their first ever home league defeat in the JD Cymru North.
Since the Tier 2 league was renamed in 2019-20, the Wingmakers had gone unbeaten at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium in more than three seasons.
Before tonight’s clash with Denbigh, Airbus had won 41 and drawn 10 of 51 league matches on their own ground.
However, the run was ended on Friday when the sensational Nathan Brown blasted in an 89th minute winner for Town, who lost 7-0 at this venue last season.
Denbigh started well, Matthew Worrall releasing Brown whose shot was well saved by Keighan Jones after three minutes.
And the visitors grabbed the lead in the 24th minute when Gwion Dafydd’s cross was smartly finished off by Alfie Vaughan.
Airbus levelled after 29 when Sam Rickett pulled the ball back for Jordan Evans, who shot powerfully into the top corner.
In first half added time, the Wingmakers edged in front when a nicely weighted pass from Evans found George Peers, who finished well for his 15th goal of the season.
It appeared like that unbeaten home record of the hosts was stretching to 52 games, but just before the hour, Gwion Dafydd found the net via a Dan Flanders assist to make it two-apiece.
Chances fell at both ends before in the 89th minute Brown scored via a magnificent free kick for his 12th goal of the campaign.
Airbus nearly saved the day when Danny Warren headed against the crossbar from an Evans free kick, then Blaine Hudson nodded just off target, but Dewi Llion’s Denbigh heroes held on for a very famous win.
