Aaron Williams was a hat-trick hero as Bay marched into the quarters with a convincing triumph at Cymru South hosts Pontypridd.
Williams doubled his tally for the season, moving on to six goals, four of them now having arrived in the Welsh Cup.
How the Seagulls did not net at least double their eventual tally is baffling, Ponty keeper Cameron Clarke produced some stunning saves and the home defence put bodies on the line countless times in frantic goalmouth scrambles,
Williams lashed a volley wide and saw his deflected strike land in the grateful arms of Clarke before the deadlock was finally broken on 31 minutes.
Within a matter of seconds, Anthony Robles’ rocket from wide was well-saved by Clarke, the follow-up header was cleared off the line, then the keeper kept out another volley before Williams finally netted at the fourth attempt for the visitors.
Hill’s run and shot prompted another fine save from Clarke before United had a rare chance, Thomas Gameson slicing wide when found in space at the back post.
A remarkable goalmouth melee saw the home goal survive early in the second half, Clarke with more heroics to deny Jordan Davies initially.
In the 54th minute, the Cymru Premier side doubled their lead from a nice three-man move.
Robles delivered low from the left and Davies laid the ball back nicely for Williams to hammer home.
Williams completed his treble with a bullet header from a Matty Hill cross.
