The draw for the last 16 of the 2025-26 FAW Youth Cup has thrown up quite a tie for football followers in one North Wales town.
Top flight Connah’s Quay Nomads Under-19 Development have landed a home clash with new kids on the block Connah’s Quay Town U19s in round four.
It promises to be quite a David v Goliath encounter between the longer-established and higher-ranked Nomads and relative newcomers Town at The Quay 3G on Sunday, December 7.
There is certainly plenty of excitement at Connah’s Quay Town surrounding the draw. The club has made great strides on a senior level since forming at the start of 2021-22 with the first team currently operating at Tier 3 in Ardal North West.
Town’s Under-17s and U19s only formed at the start of this season and compete in the North East Wales Junior and Youth Football League.
The U19s are undefeated in 10 games, while the U17s have lost just once.
In the FAW Youth Cup, Town U19s have knocked out Hawarden Rangers Youth 8-2 and a higher-level Penybont FC Development team 4-1.
Nomads U19s participate in the higher level FAW National Academi North Development League, where they sit top having lost just a single game this season, 3-0 away to second-place The New Saints.
The Nomads have won nine games out of 12 in all competitions and in the FAW Youth Cup have seen off Bangor 1876 Youth 9-2 and Tonyrefail BGC Youth 3-2.
CONNAH’S QUAY TOWN are filled with excitement about the biggest occasion in the U19s team’s short existence so far.
A club spokesman said: “The U19’s was set up at the beginning of the season, following the club’s decision to concentrate on developing younger players for our future, as we are not a club in a position to pay players.
“Along with our U17’s team, the decision seems to be paying off already. Several players from both teams have already represented the first and reserves team and shown great potential. Both teams – U17’s and U19’s – are also riding high in their relevant leagues.
“In the FAW Youth Cup, the club beat Hawarden Youth 8-2 in the first round and then impressively dispatched Category A Academy team Penybont 4-1 in a home win at Wepre Park a couple of weeks ago.
“The prize… a mouthwatering derby against CQ Nomads which the lads are relishing and will be giving it their best shot. Nomads will start as strong favourites, especially on their home turf being a 3G facility., but we’ll give it everything we’ve got.“
