After a two-season break from North Wales football, Ynys Môn defender Sara Furlong has returned to action with Llangefni Town.

The 28-year-old made her Cefni debut as a second-half substitute in Sunday’s 7-1 victory at Caernarfon Town.

A solid, experienced performer noted for her shooting power, Furlong last played club football for Amlwch Town in 2022-23.

She also had previous spells at Llangefni – the original club not the current one – and Bangor City.

Perhaps her finest achievement so far was representing the Ynys Môn women’s side which won the silver medal at the 2019 Inter-Games.

The Ynys Môn team of 2019 included Sara Furlong (No5)

Furlong played in the final at the New Stadium, Holyhead, where Ynys Môn lost 2-1 to Isle of Man.

She also made the 2023 Anglesey squad which finished fifth at the Guernsey Island Games.

Llangefni are aiming for the North Wales Coast Women’s League title this season and promotion to Tier 2.

Manager Dan Gregg is assembling an in-depth squad comprising a mix of youth and experience.

Furlong joins the likes of Cerys Gadd, Ffion Owen and Ceri Slaney as players who have won a multitude of honours in the past, alongside Cefni’s own flourishing products such as Catrin Roberts, Marissa George and Ellie Coulson, as well as young dazzlers Jess Jones, Elin Roberts, Amber Brown and Milly Lowe.
