Happy birthday to Ynys Môn football star Sara Furlong (Amlwch Town)

Happy birthday Sara Furlong – a key figure in Amlwch Town’s successful season in the North Wales Women’s League.

Born on April 22, 1997, Sara is 25 today.

Last summer Amlwch were in danger of folding due to a lack of players, but led by captain Carol Lewis, the Anglesey side not only pulled together a decent squad, they have gone on to be one of the best performing teams in the league.

Sara got Town off to a flyer, scoring both goals in the opening day 2-0 victory at Welshpool Town.

She has netted seven times in total this term, adding doubles against both Llangefni Town and Welshpool, at home in an 11-1 triumph, plus one goal versus Llanystumdwy.

A versatile player who can operate in defence or right-midfield, Sara is a fine crosser of the ball and can stand out running down the wing.

As well as her time with Amlwch, she has also played club football for Llangefni and Bangor City.

Perhaps her finest achievement so far was representing the Ynys Môn women’s side which won the silver medal at the 2019 Inter-Island Games.

Anglesey’s ladies had never made an impact in the tournament before, but they really hit form on their own island, beating Western Isles (3-1) and Jersey (1-0) before losing 2-1 to Isle of Man in the final.

Sara played in the final at the New Stadium, Holyhead, and really proved her worth during the competition.

Away from football, Sara is a popular, funny character known for taking on dangerous challenges.

She once dived out of a plane (and has the video to prove it) and took on the notoriously difficult Go Below Underground Adventures.

Sara shares her birthday with Michelle Ryan (Zoe Slater in Eastenders), David Luiz, Kaká and Machine Gun Kelly, but we think she is more famous than all of them.

Happy birthday Sara. 🍾🍾🍸🎂🎂
