CPD Y Rhyl 1879 Girls and Ladies have withdrawn from the Genero Adran North – which will now operate as a seven-team league in 2025-26.
It is understood two eligible clubs in North Wales were offered Rhyl’s place but refused.
The Lilywhites have also pulled out of the Genero Adran Trophy competition. Tier 3 Llangefni Town Ladies of the NWC Llandudno Kia Women’s League will replace them.
Rhyl 1879 have spent the past three seasons in Adran North, having won the North Wales Women’s League in their debut 2021-22 campaign.
It is believed the team has folded due to the loss of several key players to other clubs this summer.
The Football Association of Wales has made the following statement:
“The Football Association of Wales has received notification from CPD Y Rhyl 1879 Women of their withdrawal from the Genero Adran North and Genero Adran Trophy.
“After significant consideration and discussion with relevant parties, the FAW can confirm that the Genero Adran North will proceed as a seven-team league for the 2025/26 season.
“In the Genero Adran Trophy, a wildcard spot has been granted to Llangefni Town Ladies of the NWC Llandudno Kia Women’s League, who will assume Rhyl 1879’s fixture schedule in Group 4 of the 2025/26 competition.”
Launched in 2021-22, the same season the new CPD Y Rhyl 1879 men’s team started playing competitive football, the Lilywhites ladies got off to a flyer.
They won the Tier 3 North Wales Women’s League title at the first attempt, going unbeaten all season in 18 matches and scoring 118 goals.
For the past three seasons Rhyl had held their own in Genero Adran North.
