COMMENT: CPD Boded robbed of a chance to compete in the Welsh Cup – again
CPD Boded have now twice been denied a chance to compete in this season’s Welsh Cup – and they are in no way to blame.
Earlier this month, the tier 4 North Wales Coast West League Premier Division club from Ynys Môn paid their entrance fee online and thought their entry was secure.
However, a couple of days before the first qualifying round draw teams were listed, their name was not included among the cup entrants on the FAW website.
It emerged that a glitch in the entry system blocked Boded’s application and at that late stage of organising the competition, the FAW told the island club it could do nothing about it.
If Boded had been allowed late entry, it would have created an odd number of competing clubs.
However, last week it emerged one of the 2025-26 Welsh Cup entrants, Caergybi, had folded, for this season at least, hence their scheduled QR1 tie at Trearddur Bay was declared void.
What would have been wrong with allowing CPD Boded the option of taking Caergybi’s place and playing Trearddur Bay on Saturday?
Of course, it would have depended on Trearddur Bay and Boded accepting the tie, but surely there would not have been an issue there, with the two clubs being so closely located on Anglesey.
Due to Caergybi’s withdrawal, Trearddur Bay were left kicking their heels, missing out on a cup tie to help their preparations for the league season ahead.
And Boded missed out again on an opportunity to enter the national knockout at the 11th hour.
Why? Because the FAW would never think outside of the box like that.
Or they might if it was one of the bigger clubs missing out. However, a small tier 4 club from Ynys Môn probably would not even enter their thinking.
Boded’s entry was perfectly valid, it’s just that it arrived too late (not the club’s fault) to fall in with the FAW’s plans.
A simple solution and a happy ending was completely bypassed.
Not good at all……
