Two goals from Ynys Môn striker Sam Jones helped Bangor City 1876 recover from 1-0 down to see off tier 4 underdogs Mochdre.
The away side took a surprise ninth-minute lead when Will Edwards finished after Joshua Grimshaw’s initial shot was kept out by keeper Carl Jones.
Sports were giving a good account of themselves, but suffered a 37th minute blow when their captain Finlay Jones received a straight red card for handball on the goal-line from a Sam Jones strike..
Jamie Reed’s penalty was saved by Nic Bould, who soon produced a great double stop from close range.
However, in first half injury time the Ardal North West hosts levelled via Sam Jones’ header, Cai Powell-Roberts the chance supplier.
Early in the second half, Jones almost made it a double when he fired against the crossbar.
Bangor edged ahead for the first time on 69 minutes when new signing Tommy Creamer found the net after a cross from sub James Barry troubled the Mochdre defence.
And Creamer played a part in Bangor’s 75th minute third goal, his blocked shot leading to Jones making it 3-1 to Michael Johnston’s side.
Dolgellau AA 3 Llanfairfechan Town 1
Wil Gruffydd scored twice and provided an assist in Ardal North East side Dolgellau’s victory against fourth-tier Llanfairfechan.
Gerwyn Williams handed the hosts a 14th minute lead, then Gruffydd made it 2-0 after 24, Dennis Bates with the assist.
Harry Croston pulled one back on 40 minutes to give North Wales Coast East side Llanfair hope for the second half.
The win was sealed on 57 minutes when Gruffydd struck again, Bates once more the supplier.
Llangefni Town 5 CPD Llanystumdwy 0
New 18-year-old signing Dion Jones made an instant impact for Llangefni with a late first half double in a five-goal elimination of Llanystumdwy at Cae Bob Parry.
Jones netted on 38 and 40 minutes, then in the second period Aled Williams, Osian Jones and Osian Gibson put the Anglesey team out of sight.
JD CYMRU NORTH
Denbigh Town 3 Caersws 2
A good battle at Maes Tegid, Bala, saw Denbigh kick off their Cymru North campaign in winning fashion.
Ever-consistent marksman Nathan Brown broke the deadlock for the hosts on 44 minutes, Tom Weir giving the assist.
Rhys Hebden equalised eight minutes into the second half, but new signing Dan Flanders restored the home lead on 58, Brown this time assisting.
Matthew Worrall, back at the club for a third spell, made it 3-1 after 78, Owen Payne the supplier, and although Craig Harris hit back for the Bluebirds with 80 gone, the points went to Dewi Llion’s side.
- Denbigh are playing home games at Bala Town’s ground while work is being carried out on their Central Park pitch.
Llandudno 1 Holyhead Hotspur 0
Harvey Bennett bagged the 49th minute winner for Llandudno at the expense of Cymru North newcomers Holyhead Hotspur.
Newtown 3 Ruthin Town 0
Cymru Premier founder members Newtown began what they hope will be a short stay as a tier 2 side with a comfortable win over Ruthin, Jamie Hyne (2) and Louis Jacobs sharing the goals for the Robins.
CPD Y Rhyl 1879 0 Brickfield Rangers 0
Last season’s respective champions of Ardal North West and East shared an uninspiring goalless draw at the Hops and Barley Stadium.
The Lilywhites made a promising start but went off the boil, Brickfield having the better chances in the second half with a couple of good stops from Flynn Proctor denying them a winner.
