Liam Morris equals record as Ynys Môn qualify for semis after dramatic draw

Liam Morris’ two goals ensured he became joint all-time top scorer for Ynys Môn on a highly-charged evening which saw both teams qualify for the semi-finals.
Bermuda top Group C on goal difference after fighting back from two-down to force a draw with a late free-kick.
Môn progress to the last four as best group runners-up. They will face Isle of Man in Thursday’s semis at KGS Pitch 1 – Showcase, kick-off 5 pm. Bermuda will take on Jersey in the other semi.
Morris’ double on Tuesday evening boosted his tally to nine Island/Inter Games goals, putting him level with Richard Hughes in the Môn list.
It was a really difficult test for Anglesey at Stromness Academy against a dynamic Bermuda side which had defeated Western Isles 2-0 in their opening Group C game.
Môn had beaten WI 1-0 on Monday night, so trailed the archipelago on goal difference going into the group decider.
Martin Jones’ side made a great start and took an 11th minute lead. Caleb McDowell brought down Dylan Summers-Jones in the box and Morris scored from the penalty spot.
The second Môn goal was a beauty, A flowing move saw Sam Jones release Summers-Jones, whose cross from the right was finished clinically first-time by CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 winger Morris.
Sam Jones had an effort deflected over the bar before Bermuda pulled one back on 22 minutes, Keyni Mills’ pace enabling him to cross for Mason Christian to score.
Osian Jones had a glorious chance to make it 3-1 just before half time, but keeper Coleridge Fubler Jr denied him.
Early in the second half, Summers-Jones controversially had a goal disallowed when he converted a Jones cross.
Fubler Jr then thwarted efforts from Summers-Jones and Morris as Môn chased a third.
Alex Boss and Josh Stanley gave Môn fresh impetus when they came on, but still that elusive third goal would not come.
The game turned when Bermuda’s McDowall suffered a broken ankle which held up the game for around 10 minutes while care was adminstered to the stricken player.
From the restart Bermuda were inspired, producing swathes of late pressure.
Môn were holding out well until conceding a free kick 20 yards out in injury time.
Jakeem Jennings sent an unstoppable strike beyond keeper Carl Jones to the utter delight of the radio commentator, who screamed with joy in a manner normally reserved for lottery winners.
That was the end of the scoring in a dramatic encounter.
Anglesey manager Martin Jones said: “We are delighted to go through; the lads have been absolutely outstanding. The work rate was phenomenal and if anything we are disappointed not to have scored more, but our immediate thoughts are with the Bermuda player and we hope he makes healthy recovery as soon as possible.”
