On the eve of the 2025 Island Games, one of Ynys Môn’s finest young football talents has switched clubs.

Casi Evans, 18, has joined Cheltenham Town of the tier 3 FA Women’s National League South.

Versatile defender and midfielder Evans signs for The Robinesses from both Blackburn Rovers and Halifax Town Women, where she was dual-signed last season.

“I am really excited to have joined Cheltenham and have been really made to feel welcome by both the staff and players,” Evans told the Cheltenham website.

“I’d like to establish myself within the squad and team and aim to play as many minutes as possible during the season.”

Town had a fine 2024/25 campaign, reaching the finals of the Gloucestershire County Cup and the FAWNL Plate, alongside finishing eighth in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.

Amlwch girl Casi, who played for Everton and FAW Academy North prior to being on dual registration for Blackburn and Halifax, represented Wales up to under-17 level, featuring at the 2022 Concacaf Girls’ Under-15 Championship, before stepping up to the Wales Under-19 side which competed at the UEFA European Women’s U19 Championship against Serbia, Republic of Ireland and France.

A former pupil of Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones, Amlwch, Casi played for Caernarfon Town Under-15s before progressing to the FAW Academy North at U16 and U17 levels.

There is quite a football history in Casi’s family.

Her dad David Evans was a Watford apprentice and had a pro contract for a year. He also won the FA Youth Cup with Watford and has a Wales youth cap for U18’s.

Whilst he was with Bangor City they won the League of Wales in 1993-94 and he also played in Europe against Akranes of Iceland. He also received a Welsh non league cap at Bangor.

David has also played for Porthmadog, Glantraeth, Llanfairpwll and Amlwch Town.

Casi’s taid Vivian was a captain for Anglesey schoolboys and represented Wales Under-15’s. He had trials for Nottingham Forest and Blackpool and was offered to go to Cardiff. He played for Bangor at 16 and then returned to Amlwch to play.

Her brothers Cian Evans and Caio Evans have been capped for Welsh Schools and Colleges.
