Major works planned at Bangor City Stadium will more than double its seating capacity

Major works are planned at Bangor City Stadium which will more than double its capacity and make the venue much more than just a sporting arena.
Stadium owners have announced a significant redevelopment plan is currently being undertaken that will see the Nantporth facility on the outskirts of Bangor elevated to meet UEFA Tier 2 criteria, delivering huge improvements for both supporters and players.
Chairman, Nick Pritchard, said: “These plans will go some way into showing our dedication to the stadium and its teams over the coming years.
“Our aim is to have works completed within 5 years making it sustainable, efficient and capable of not only holding a men’s and women’s Welsh Premier team but holding concerts and events never seen in the City before.”
Stadium director Lee Dixon added: “We are committed as a board to working towards the Tier 2 UEFA license and giving the fans a stadium that meets the needs for all our community. These proposals give the board a clear plan and we will be working with our funding partners and stakeholders closely to see the viability of this phased approach.
“The new 4G training facility which is currently underway shows our ambitions to making the Bangor City Stadium a facility that can provide the best experience for our fans, community and partners.”
As part of the upgrades, new stands will be constructed at the Northern and Southern end of the ground – behind each goal.
The Northern stand will be capable of seating 450 fans, with the Southern stands seated capacity being 491.
These stands will feature retractable seating, enabling the space to function as a standing terrace throughout the domestic season, with seating deployed for UEFA and FAW fixtures, offering flexibility and enhancing the matchday experience for fans.
The club house and main stand will also see major redevelopment as an extension will see 145 new seats added to the existing 787, bringing the total main stand capacity to 932 seats.
Alongside the existing family stands on the Menai side of the pitch, an additional set of three new container stands will be placed the opposite side of the gantry and will be dedicated to away supporters.
These additions will see the total seated capacity of the stadium increase significantly from 1,045 to 2,226 seats.
In addition to increased seating, the clubhouse extension will deliver a suite of upgraded facilities. A second, larger function room will be constructed, complete with its own bar, commercial kitchen, and toilet facilities.
The two function rooms will be capable of operating as separate spaces or combined into one large event venue, offering flexibility for various functions and events. The new function room will also feature direct access to an elevated outdoor terrace with sweeping views of the pitch and surrounding area.
At pitch level, the development will include new and enhanced player and official facilities. These will include upgraded changing rooms, a dedicated doping control room, officials’ rooms, and improved toilet facilities for supporters. All additions are being designed to ensure full compliance with UEFA Tier 2 stadium standards.
These developments represent a major step forward within the stadium and our setup and a testament to the long-term ambitions of the board, providing supporters with a vastly improved stadium experience and ensuring the stadium remains well-equipped for future growth and competition at the highest levels.
- It was recently revealed that Bangor City Stadium will be home to the UK’s first 4G playing surface.
The pioneering project will be funded through the Cymru Football Foundation’s Fit-For-Future Facilities Programme and in collaboration with CPD Dinas Bangor 1876 and Nantporth C.I.C.
The CFF – supported by the UK Government’s Grassroots Facility Programme and the Premier League – will pilot the surface in a first of its kind through a £350k investment to install the new pitch at Bangor City Stadium.
The development will be an upgrade of the current 3G pitch at the stadium with state-of-the-art facilities built alongside.
The main grass pitch where CPD Dinas Bangor 1876 play their matches will remain the same.
