CPD Llanfairpwll manager calls it a day after four seasons and exactly 100 league games in charge

CPD Llanfairpwll manager Gwyndaf Hughes has resigned after four years in charge.
The club announced yesterday that Hughes is stepping down to spend more time with his growing family.
A former Llanfairpwll player, Hughes took over as manager at Maes Eilian in 2021-22 and under his leadership the team improved their position every season in Tier 5 North Wales Coast West Division One.
Managing the team in exactly 100 league games over the four seasons, they ended up seventh, fifth, fourth and then third in the campaign just gone.
Under Hughes, ‘Pwll also had some great cup adventures.
In 2023-24, they made it to the NWCFA Junior Challenge Cup final, beating Llandudno Amateurs 2-1 in the semis.
Unfortunately, however, a player eligibility dispute between CPD Y Glannau and Bow FC over the other semi dragged on for so long, the final was never played as the football season ran out of time.

The 2022-23 campaign brought a fine run in the FAW Amateur Trophy which saw ‘Pwll defeat tier 4 NFA before the Anglesey side exited 6-5 on spot-kicks at Llansantffraid Village in the third round.
Back in 2021-22, Hughes’ first season at the helm, Llanfairpwll were Junior Cup semi-finalists, losing 3-2 to Cemaes Bay in a replayed tie having eliminated Bethesda Athletic and Caer Clwyd in earlier round penalty shoot-outs.
A statement from Llanfairpwll said: “As a club we are sad to announce that our manager Gwyndaf Hughes is stepping down after 4 seasons of managing the senior team.
“Gwyndaf made his senior debut for Llanfair at 16 and was a top defender in his day, playing in four tiers of Welsh football. He had a couple of spells at the club before returning in the summer of 2021.
“Unfortunately during his first pre-season back he suffered a season-ending injury which resulted in him joining the coaching staff, and then promoted to manager after one league game.
“We’re confident that his influence on the club will be seen for years and we thank him for his work alongside the club in adding the new development side, the connection with the juniors and beginning to restore the culture and identity of the club on and off the pitch.
“Finishing 3rd and 4th in our last two seasons and we won’t mention last season’s (2023-24) Junior Cup final.
“Thank you for everything, including the sacrifices you and your lovely wife Lois had to make and a huge congratulations on the news of your second child!
“All the best to you and your family for the future.”
