The 2024-25 Bob Brodie Trophy goalscorers competition produced a tie for the very first time.
Both Cemaes Bay’s Luke McGivern and Connor Owen of Gwalchmai have ended the season level on 33 goals.
Tonight saw McGivern unable to score the goal that would have clinched him the golden boot as Cemaes were defeated 2-1 by Llanberis in the Cwpan Snowdonia Final at Bontnewydd, while Trearddur Bay Development beat Nefyn United – Tim Datblygu 4-2 to clinch the NWCFA Development League Premier title.
Remarkably, Luke and Connor finish with identical stats – 33 GOALS IN 33 MATCHES.
It is the lowest total ever to win the Bob Brodie, but there are quite a few less games than there used to be nowadays due to the demise of a number of cup competitions.
Connor is the first-ever Gwalchmai player to win (or jointly win) the Trophy, while Luke is the second from Cemaes Bay, following Steven Whittaker’s successes in 2014-15 and 2019-20.
Arden Gisbourne of Llannerchymedd completed a fantastic season in second place with 30 goals scored, while Josh Stanley and Cameron Buckley are joint third with 29.
Cory Williams (Holyhead Hotspur) scored a fantastic 23 goals, helping his team earn promotion to the Tier 2 Cymru North for 2025-26. He netted all of his goals this season in Tier 3. His best moment has to be the two goals he scored as a late sub in a 4-3 win at champions Rhyl 1879. What a player!
That ends the action for Ynys Môn senior football in 2024-25.
The Bob Brodie Trophy recognises the leading goalscorer in Anglesey football each season and has been running for 14 years.
It commemorates Bob, a proud Scot and a popular and successful former player and manager on the island who sadly left us in 2011.
