North Wales Cricket League: Top three all lose in Division One, Corwen ruthless in Division Two

NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – MAY 24

DIVISION ONE

It was a day of surprises in Division One with the top three all losing, leading pair Hawarden Park and Halkyn suffering their first defeats of 2025.

Bangor 2nd XI (15) 231-7 Dolgellau (0) 127-9

Bangor seconds produced a series of steady batting and bowling performances in carving out a maximum points win over Dolgellau.
Put into bat, the Citizens racked up 231-7 off 45 overs, Chris Barry leading the chart with 45 runs, Idrees Ijaz 34, Sion Llwyd 27 and skipper Jamie Davies 26, Jaco Oosthuizen 3-40 for visitors Dol.
In reply, the away side were limited to 127-9, David Jenkins 45, Ijaz 2-9, Gareth Edwards 2-16, Christopher Dawson 2-17 and Aayushman Goswami 2-34.

Connah’s Quay (13) 262-9 Brymbo 2nd XI (2) 198-10

Joshua Clarke struck a third-highest career score of 121 to help Connah’s Quay set a winning total at Central Park.
Clarke dominated in a knock that came off 93 balls and included 13 fours and four sixes as the hosts amassed 262-9 after opting to bat.
Luke Bennett added 33 and Mali Auty 30 for the Deesiders, Ross Roberts an outstanding 4-23 off nine for the Steelmen and Adam Smith 3-66.
Brymbo seconds were then dismissed for 198, Joss Roberts 49 and Adam De Rycke 31, Lee Davies pocketing 3-29 and Rhys Stout 2-16 for the hosts.

Halkyn (3) 160-8 Northop 2nd XI (12) 161-7

A first loss of the season for Halkyn came at the hands of a Northop seconds team which finally displayed form of the champions they are.
Inserted by the visitors and chasing a sixth straight win, the Pant Newydd hosts were restricted to 160-8, Andrew Kendrick 56 not out, Joe Griffiths 4-25 and Mark Poynton 2-34 for the away team.
Northop got home on 161-7 off 38.4, Darren Williams 39 and David Foulkes 34, Nathan Roett 2-21, Hammad Bajwa 2-24 and Ben Roberts 2-30 for the home side.

Mochdre 2nd XI (11) 127-10 Llandudno (4) 120-10

Quite a turn up at Swan Road as Mochdre seconds took the last four Llandudno wickets for just eight runs to grab a close-fought victory.
Calling the coin correctly and choosing to bat, the hosts were bowled out for a modest 127, Jack Austin 26 and Finlay Jones 25, Oliver Hughes 4-30 and Lucas Hughes 2-27 for the visitors.
Llandudno were 112-6 in reply, but then came that late collapse, leaving the home team winners by seven runs.
Extras top-scored for Tudno with 27, Elliott Hughes next highest on 25, while the star bowler for Mochdre was Andrew Butlin with 5-27, Munim Khan bagging 3-27 and Alex J Davies 2-34.

Mold (12) 167-7 Hawarden Park (3) 163-7

Skipper Isaac Allen claimed a vital 4-21 as his team Mold ended Hawarden Park’s perfect start to the campaign.
Electing to bat, the visitors posted 163-7 off 45 overs, Corey Cuffe 55 and Philip Bradfield 34 not out. Cuffe was among Allen’s four victims, three of those clean bowled.
Mold reached a winning 167-7 with seven balls to spare, Ewan Hill 34, Allen 27, Thomas North 26 and Louis Boulton 24, Tom Norris 2-29 and Evan Shaw 2-40 for the visitors.

Pontblyddyn (2) 107-10 Gresford (13) 109-4

Chris Ellwood scooped 3-9 off 7.3 and Tom Crewe snapped up 3-24 as Gresford blew away Pontblyddyn for just 107 after the hosts had decided to bat.
The visitors needed just 21.4 overs to make 109-4 in response, opener Wes Evans 40, Vishwa Manawaduge 2-33 for the losing side.

DIVISION TWO

Abergele (15) 242-4 Ruthin (0) 106-10

Moinak Pyne scored a maiden century and career best 105 not out as Abergele piled on the runs at Pentre Mawr Park.


Opener Pyne struck 18 fours and a six in his ton, sharing in a second-wicket stand of 114 with Gwil Lloyd Jones (40) as Gele chalked up a huge 242-4 after opting for first knock.

Nathan Aldridge added 37 for the home side.

Ruthin were then dismissed for 106, Lewis Tolond 3-21 and Edward Rooney 2-10, to wrap up a 15-0 verdict.

Buckley (3) 169-10 Marchwiel & Wrexham (12) 213-7

George Forgrave cracked a commanding 77 and Sam Shoemark hit 38 as Marchwiel and Wrexham recorded 213-7 off 40 overs after being invited to bat.
Jack Gibson collected 3-38 and Louis Parry 2-31 for the home team.
Buckley were then bowled out for 169, Jatin Sharma (33) and Parry (32) with some good late runs batting at eight and nine, Phil Oddie grabbing 4-18 and Muhammad Ghufran 3-20 for the victorious visitors.

Llanrwst (1) 78-10 Corwen (14) 81-2

Six straight wins for leaders Corwen who continued their roaring start to the season with an eight-wicket rout at Gwydir Park.
Asked to bat, Llanrwst were blasted out for just 78, Caleb Dyke 3-13, Simon Harrison 3-20 and Jordan Williams 2-12 for the Edeyrnion side.
Corwen needed just 9.4 overs to slam a winning 81-2, Rob Storey (41 not out) sharing an opening partnership of 64 with Harry Pooler.

Llay Welfare (14) 127-3 Pontblyddyn 2nd XI (1) 126-10

Opener Cayo Jones’ outstanding 91 was not enough to save his Pontblyddyn seconds team from a heavy loss at Llay on Sunday.
Put in, Jones received little support as Pont were dismissed for 126, David Phennah 3-18 and Jack Honey 3-25 for the hosts, who hit back with 127-3 in 22.5, Jacob Roberts 41 and captain Tom Parry 33 not out, Sam Andrews 2-36 for the away side.

Pwllheli (15) 129-1 Menai Bridge 2nd XI (0) 128-10

Pwllheli produced their best performance so far as they defeated Menai Bridge seconds by nine wickets at Parc Bodegroes.
Winning the toss and deciding to field first, the home side sent the islanders packing for 128, Kartik Bhardwaj 4-23, Kalim Al Baloshi 3-36 and Ioan Roberts 2-26, while top-scorer for the Bridge was Matt Bixby with 47.
Pwll needed just 17 overs to hammer 129-1, Craig Edwards hitting 68 not out off 43 balls including eight fours and three sizes, and fellow opener Harri Glyn Williams posting 50 exactly – eight boundaries – in a first wicket stand of 124.

St Asaph 2nd XI (15) 179-8 Carmel & District (0) 67-10

Ankush Upadhyaya took a stunning 5-9 off 6.2 overs as St Asaph seconds thrashed Carmel and District by 112 runs at Elwy Park Grove.

Saints were put in and recovered from 34-4 to set 179-8, Tim Cloete’s 54 being his maiden half-ton, Charlie Williams notching 34 and Owen Sidney 30, Jagath Magulagama 2-14 and Oliver Saynor 2-21 doing early damage for the visitors.

Carmel were skittled out for just 67, Upadhyaya’s five-for the star attraction for the hosts, while the evergreen David North snared 3-21. Points: 15-0.
