Llangefni Town nominated for Tier 2 promotion by North East Wales Women’s Football League

The North East Wales Women’s League have nominated Llangefni Town for elevation to Tier 2 after Berriew’s withdrawal from today’s promotion play-off at Brymbo.
East Division champions Berriew were due to face West Division runners-up Llangefni with the prize a place in Genero Adran North in 2025-26.
West Division title winners Pwllheli, also crowned overall North East Wales League champions after beating Berriew 5-2 last weekend, do not possess a Tier 2 licence and did not apply for promotion.
Therefore, as per the rules, Llangefni as the second-placed club in West and who do have the licence, qualify for the promotion play-off.
Berriew secured a Tier 2 licence on appeal last week.
However, the Powys side told the league they could not raise a team for today’s play-off and were unable to/unwilling to play the fixture at Brymbo.
As a result, the North East Wales Women’s League have today released the following statement: “The league have been informed that Berriew FC cannot fulfil today’s fixture Llangefni v Berriew in the promotion play-off game at Brymbo SSC. 2pm kick off.
“As no other available Sunday or any other date that works for both teams the League Officers have decided to nominate Llangefni Town Ladies as the Tier 2 Promotion candidate for the 25/26 Season.”
It is believed Berriew have claimed that as North East Wales League East-West Division champions play-off losers to Pwllheli, they should get the automatic promotion the Llyn Peninsula team did not apply for.
This was the case last season, when Flint Town United lost the North East Wales Women’s League all-champions play-off to Pwllheli, but the Silkwomen still went straight up as Tier 2 licence holders.
However, the rule has changed this season with a promotion play-off introduced for the first time, as an additional fixture to the ‘champion of champions’ play-off if necessary. This is designed to give the West Division a fairer crack at promotion should Pwllheli continue to dominate but stay where they are.
It remains to be seen if Berriew will take any further action.
