Bowlers Charlie Collins and Jack Parry produced some late order batting heroics to prevent Bay crashing to a much heavier defeat than the 62-run loss they suffered at the hands of last year’s Premier runners-up Northern.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, amassing 240-5 dec off 54.2 overs, skipper Chris Laker producing the star knock of 115 not out off 99 balls, including 14 fours and three sixes, opener Stephen Lucas adding 73.
The home attack found it tough going, Dulanjala Mendis with the best return of 2-81 from 27.2 overs.
In reply, the hosts nosedived to 61-8, losing four wickets with the score on 61, before Collins and Parry launched a counter thrust.
Collins hit 58 off 53 deliveries, striking nine boundaries and two maximums, while Parry made 48 in a ninth-wicket stand of 89.
Collins was eventually out and Parry followed, the Bay’s final total being 178 all out, Tomas Sephton 5-75 for Northern, who claimed the points 25-5.
Opener Dan Russell had earlier made 31 for the home side before the main carnage set in.
Jac Kennedy made it back-to-back centuries for a Northop Hall outfit which romped to a nine-wicket triumph at Fleetwood.
The home side opted for first knock after a correct call of the coin and set 224-8 declared off 55 overs, Nathan Condon with 89 and Jonny Howard 79 not out.
Paul Jenkins picked up 3-61 and James Hurlin 3-63 for the Flintshire side.
Hall showed no mercy in response, racing to 225-1 off just 36 overs, Kennedy finishing 105 not out – 18 fours – and sharing in an opening stand of 143 with Andrew Watkin (54).
The North Wales visitors claimed the points 24-6 and lie third in the table.
Despite a fine unbeaten 60 from opener Andy Taylor, Prestatyn’s score of 140 all out was never going to be enough to trouble Wirral travellers Caldy at Beach Close.
Rohan Sanjaya took 6-65 and Sadeep Satutantrige 4-32 for the away side, who cruised to victory with 141-3 off 27.5, Kieron Battersby 59.
Colwyn Bay seconds are early leaders of the 2nd XI First Division after completing a fourth straight win on Saturday.
Bay blasted 207-2 off 39 overs after deciding to bat first, Harry Spillane heading the chart with 63, skipper Tom Roberts 59 not out and Samuel Costley 52 no.
Shay Williams then claimed stunning figures of 4-1 off 10 overs as Highfield were sent packing for just 94, Tom Clarke 2-54 in a 25-2 points rout.
Not the Hall’s day at Smithy Lane as visitors Orrell posted 197-8 declared, Ben Arden 3-74 and Matteo Evans-Ford 2-32 for the hosts, who were removed for just 108, David Oultram a spirited 31 not out.
Prestatyn seconds won the toss and put the hosts in, Sutton notching up 213-7 declared, Steven Edwards taking 2-50 and Jack Cheetham 2-53, and in reply the visitors were dismissed for 116, opener Joe Horton 37, Joshua Brown 5-18 for the winning side.
