North East Wales League – Sklenar treble guides Rhostyllen to Premier Cup final meeting with Mynydd Isa

Hat-trick hero Liam Sklenar guided Rhostyllen into the Premier Cup final where a meeting with Mynydd Isa awaits.
Long-time prolific marksman Sklenar reached 14 goals for the season after his latest effort, which included the 118th minute winner last Saturday.
Nicky Williams struck first for the Park on seven minutes at The Rec from a Jake Harper assist, but Sklenar levelled after 10, set up by Tomos Williams, and it stayed 1-1 up to the break.
Williams restored the away lead on 54 minutes, Corey Smart assisting, but the same combination of Tomos Williams and scorer Sklenar made it 2-2 after 71.
Extra time was needed and it was not until deep into the second period that Sklenar bagged the winner from a Cole Bagnall assist.
After the match, a delighted Rhostyllen manager Simon Sedgwick said: “What a semi final and a great advert for Tier 4 football, that sometimes gets forgotten about.
“Massive respect must go out to both sets of players, management and supporters who made it a big crowd and saw an entertaining game of football.
“Five great goals/ finishes, tackles flying in from both sides in a very competitive game that both sides wanted to win in 90 minutes. Both teams created chances to the very end, and they say if you are going to win a game, then the last minute of extra time is no better.
“Huge congrats to Liam on his hat-trick, but I am super proud of all my players who had to come from behind on 2 occasions.
“We have come a long way in a short space of time, and the squad has worked very hard on their own fitness levels. Today our fitness shone through and won us the game.”

CPD Gronant 0 Mynydd Isa 4

Captain Sam Wainwright struck twice for a Mynydd Isa side who were too strong on the night.
Nathan Mendoza and Braden Lavin added further goals for the Premier Division leaders.

NORTH EAST WALES LEAGUE – REPORTS, MARCH 1

PREMIER DIVISION

Coedpoeth United 5-1 Ruabon Rovers

Jack Massey (2), Adam Lloyd, Ben Griffiths and sub Jack Pawley shared the goals which clinched the win that edged Coedpoeth to within two points of leaders Mynydd Isa, having played two games more.
Sub Tom Williams netted for Ruabon.

Hawarden Rangers 1-3 Lex XI

Harry Massey, Josh Phillips and Keiron Jones found the net for victorious Lex, Louis Anglesea replying.

Penyffordd Lions 3-4 Castell Alun Colts

Niall Evans delivered a 99th minute winner for Casty.
It was Evans’ second goal of the game, Luca Nardo and Alli Belk also on target for the visitors, Alister Randles and Callum Webber on the mark for Lions.

CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION

Aston Park Rangers 1-0 Brymbo

One-nil’s are pretty rare in this goal-packed division, but that was the outcome at the 33 Pitch, where Mason Lowery’s 60th minute strike settled the issue.
APR’s Thomas Barbet was red-carded on 75, while Harry Wood of Brymbo was dismissed for a second yellow after 86.

Broughton United 2-1 Overton Recreational

A very feisty encounter saw the league leaders walk away with all three points.
The first half was pretty even. Jayden Evans opened the scoring for Broughton in the 31st minute, dispossessing the keeper to roll the ball into the net. The game was then turned on its head after 39 when United’s Josh Jones saw red for a challenge deemed reckless.
The playing field was levelled shortly after half time when Peter Thedens was sent for an early bath following two bookable offences within a couple of minutes.
The day got worse for Overton 5 minutes later when the ball sat up nicely for Lewis Jones to score a pearler of a goal from 30 yards to make it 2-0 to the home side.
A nervy finish was set up when Rec’s Nathan Tombs scored as the 90tth minute approached to make it 2-1 – but ultimately it wasn’t enough as Broughton took the win and lead the table by 11 points.

Cei Connah 1-4 Acton

Niall Challoner notched a hat-trick for the away side, Sam Giles also finding the net, while sub Arkadiusz Mikula responded for CC.

Deeside Dragons 0-5 Skippy

Just a second win of the season for Skippy lifted them out of the bottom two, Callum Edwards (3), Taylor Edwards and Dane Reeves adding singles for the travellers.

Deeside United 1-10 Cefn Druids

James Williams (4), Oliver Roberts (3), Bradley Dobson (2) and Dan Sykes split the goals for the Druids.

Rhydymwyn 9-0 Bellevue

Ryan Carrington led the way for Rhydymwyn with a hat-trick in last Friday’s encounter with Bellevue.
There was a goal apiece for Alistair Gibson, captain Connor Davies, Tomos Cumming, Nathan Williams, plus subs Kallum Pierce – his 21st of the season – and Karl Bacon.

Sychdyn United 5-0 Holywell United

Jordan Walker (2), Shay Davies, Linden Puckey and George Davies shared the winners’ goals tally.

CPD Yr Wyddgrug 4-3 Johnstown YFC

Three subs appeared on the scoresheet for Yr Wyddgrug in this seven-goal thriller – Henry Jones, Hamilton John and Romaine Halfpenny-Williams.
Gethin Thomas also found the net for the hosts, Robert Cooper, Aaron Filmer and Callum Poole responding for close contenders Johnstown.

RESERVE DIVISION GROUP A

Brickfield Rangers Reserves 4-1 Llangollen Town Reserves

Cameron James, Jack Hanley and a double from sub Jardel Tavares Dias Da Mota steered Brickfield to victory, Richard Griffiths the sole away marksman.

Penycae Reserves 0-5 Saltney Town Reserves

Jack Robinson (2), Daniel Sands, Joey Hughes and sub Freddie Melia combined to bank a comfortable win for the Bordermen.

RESERVE DIVISION GROUP B

Coedpoeth United Reserves 1-4 Greenfield Reserves

Bailey Roberts (2), Ryan Jones and Jack Stevens were the away side;s marksmen, veteran skipper Kevin Breeze on target for Coedy.

FC Queen’s Park Reserves 1-1 Lex Reserves

Bradley Stanford’s 12th minute strike looked to have won it for the Park, but an own goal on 95 from Bartlomiej Szulc ensured Lex took a point.
Later in added time, the hosts had Jack Mitchell and Shad Ali red-carded.

GROUP B THIRD ROUND

Castell Alun Colts Reserves 2-2 Johnstown YFC Reserves

Second-half strikes from Kacper Wojciech and Lewys Parry ensured Casty rallied from two-down to earn a point.

Connah’s Quay Town XI 4-0 Penyffordd Lions Reserves

Sam Clarke, Kyle Harte, Jon Tear-Edmonds and Lewis Harris pocketed a goal apiece to seal the win for Quay.
