Managers of Flint and Nomads share thoughts on Sunday’s Genero Adran North derby clash

Despite his team being 10 points clear at the Genero Adran North summit after eight straight wins, Connah’s Quay Nomads manager Jordan Parry insists there is no title talk in the dressing room.

Parry was delighted with yesterday’s 3-0 win at Flint Town United, one of the stronger teams competing in Tier 2 this term.

Polly Wild-McGregor scored twice for Nomads to bring her total for the season to 20, while Phoebe Ellis was also on target.

Grassroots North Wales chatted to manager Parry about his thoughts on Sunday’s performance at the Essity Stadium.

How do you assess Sunday’s performance in your 3-0 victory against a team which previously probably gave you your hardest test of the season to date?

Jordan Parry: We were excellent both in and out of possession yesterday and dominated both periods. We came away in the first half frustrated and should have been more clinical in the final third but in regards to game plan, everything we prepared for in the week near enough came into fruition and the girls got the job done

Credit to Flint. They didn’t stop all through the game and they’ve proven they deserve to be in tier 2 this season and have certainly made it more competitive, Credit to staff and players. 

You are 10 points clear at the top with six matches left. You must be delighted with this….

JP: We’ve put ourselves in a good position which the league shows. However it’s something I’m not particularly interested in, especially not in January. Feet firmly on the ground preparing for the next game.

Is there any title talk around the squad?

JP: I hear it more from other people this season rather than ourselves. People are obviously looking at the league table but what keeps the fire burning is we are the second best team in the league and we are playing the champions this weekend – and that’s how we approach every game with something to prove. 

You named Alisha Whitehead-Hughes in your starting line up, but changed that plan and brought in captain Polly Wild Mc-Gregor before kick-off. Are you pleased with how that worked out, seeing as Polly scored twice?

Precaution, Didn’t want to risk Alisha and Polly hadn’t been well at all, all week. However, she managed to bag 2 goals. It was all about managing both of them

Flint Town United manager Oli Williams gave his thoughts to club social media after the game

“You have to give credit to the opposition. Nomads are a great outfit who have been strong favourites for the title this season and will go on to achieve that in the next few weeks. 

“They have been building up to this success for a number of seasons now and this season deserve it.
“We understand we are still early in our process and have lots of areas we can improve on but I can’t fault the effort that the players are giving week in week out. We knew there would be tough moments in this league and yesterday was one of them.

“We will learn from our mistakes, and look to get back to winning ways against Felinheli on Sunday. 

“I would also like to thank everyone for their support yesterday from all staff and players. Every week we get great support from the stands and it doesn’t go unnoticed, from what I have seen we are the best supported team in the league, from supporters cheering us on, to the support we get from the club as a whole.”

Flint midfielder Rosie Hughes was carried off in the closing minutes of Sunday’s clash with an Achilles problem.

She hopes to be back in action in two to three weeks.
