Recent signing Sam Reynolds struck twice as Rhyl 1879 moved level on points and goal difference with Ardal North West leaders Porthmadog on Saturday afternoon.
Port are now only top on goals scored and did themselves no favours by losing 1-0 at Pwllheli yesterday.
The Lilywhites made it five wins and a draw in their unbeaten run under new manager Paul Moore – that’s 16 points now out of a possible 18.
Rhyl needed to be on their guard on Saturday against a Saints outfit which won impressively 3-0 at Trearddur Bay recently and were no doubt determined to grab some local bragging rights.
But despite not being at their fluent best, 1879 had more than enough in the locker to claim three points.
Star of the show was Reynolds, who arrived at the Hops and Barley Community Stadium from Connah’s Quay Town at the start of the month, having previously also represented tier 2 clubs Mold Alexandra and Ruthin Town, as well as Saltney Town.
On Saturday, the 23-year-old notched his first goals in a Rhyl shirt.
Reynolds broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a smart finish from a Paul Fleming assist.
It was Fleming himself who made it 2-0 close to half time, the former Denbigh Town and St Asaph player, who last featured for Saints in 2019-20, finding the top corner wirh a brilliant effort.
Callum Proctor set up Reynolds for his second and Rhyl’s third on 59 minutes.
Two goals inside the first 10 minutes were sufficient to ensure Town made it back-to-back wins at the expense of Nantlle Vale.
Connor Parry scored in the very first minute from a Steve Chiocchi assist and George Davies doubled the advantage with 10 on the clock.
After a recent sticky spell, Town are finding their feet again and in their first season in tier 3 sit handily in fourth spot.
On-fire Llannefydd made it four wins in their last five matches with a seven-goal drubbing of struggling Conwy.
Llion Morris, Tom Jones (1 pen) and Ciran Jones all scored two apiece for the home side, sub David Lawson-Cooke also on the mark.
A third straight victory nudged Llanrwst into fifth place, 10 points off the lead but with two games in hand on the top pair.
After a goalless first half, Pat Hinchcliffe gave Corwen a 50th minute advantage, but Math Thomas levelled on 56 from a Julian Williams assist and the ever-dangerous Callum Parry delivered the decider after 80, Leon Doran setting him up.
Three wins out of three for Hotspur over island rivals Trearddur Bay this season, two league victories added to a Welsh Cup penalty shoot out success.
Striking partnership Dylan Summers-Jones and Cory Williams supplied Hotspur’s first half goals on nine and 34 minutes respectively.
It was a ninth goal of the campaign for Summers-Jones, who also provided an assist, while Williams boosted his total to 14 in 2024-25.
While the front men grabbed the headlines, it was midfield ace Harry Lewis who was his team’s choice as man of the match. In an all-action display, the 24-year-old bossed the middle of the park and overran the home midfield.
Trearddur Bay, who lost at home for a second game on the bounce, could only manage a single reply through Anthony Marshall on 51 minutes and had Dion Donohue red-carded for sissent after 55.
The hosts so nearly equalised when impactive substitute Mel McGinness fired a late effort against the foot of the post and the ball ran along the line to eventual safety for the visitors.
Archie Jones’ 82nd minute equaliser – his 11th goal of the season – rescued a point for NFA, who have now gone five matches without a win, but have drawn three of those.
After a goalless first half, Felinheli edged ahead on 61 minutes via captain Aled Griffith from a Noah Humphreys assist, but it ended up all-square.
Substitute Ashley Ainsworth bagged a 78th minute winner for a Pwllheli side who defended superbly against the leaders with keeper Morgan Jones outstanding.
It was a stunning turnaround for Carl Jones’ side, who crashed 8-2 at bottom side Menai Bridge Tigers seven days earlier.
