How about a twin boost for Prestatyn Town – in more ways than one!
The Seasiders have just signed Alex Jones and James Jones, highly-rated brothers on the North Wales football scene, who are also twins!
The 30-year-old pair both recently left CPD Y Rhyl 1879, where they had made a major impact.
They can begin playing for Cymru North side Prestatyn from the start of January.
Goalscoring midfielder Alex, the elder twin by eight minutes, has a proud past history with Prestatyn Town.
He first came to prominence as a Prestatyn player before joining former Welsh Premier side Rhyl FC in 2016.
His outstanding play for the Lilywhites led to him being awarded Welsh Premier Player of the Month for September 2016.
Although Rhyl were relegated at the end of that season, he remained with the club the following campaign in the Cymru Alliance, but temporarily retired in January 2018 following injury issues.
Alex returned to football with Prestatyn Town in 2018-19 and the club’s fortunes lifted after Neil Gibson returned as manager. Alex captained Town to the Cymru Alliance title in 2019-20.
With Prestatyn refused promotion to the top flight, Alex returned to the Welsh Premier with Flint Town United, where he again impressed.
In 2022-23, Alex joined his brother James at CPD Y Rhyl 1879. Alex netted 28 goals in 67 games for the Lilywhites before leaving the club a fortnight ago.
Defender James departed the Hops and Barley Stadium on the same day as his brother.
James had been an 1879 player since the start, making a total of 114 appearances for a club where he was a highly influential and popular figure.
Before signing for 1879, James had played for Abergele, then Rhyl FC and Flint Town United under manager Niall McGuinness, and later Prestatyn Town, where he was part of the 2019-20 Cymru North title-winning squad.
Both Jones twins are now reunited with former 1879 boss Gareth ‘Perry’ Thomas, who was also rejoined by former backroom staff at Rhyl. Ryan Turner and Steve Jones. at Bastion Gardens this week.
All the new arrivals will be anxious to reverse Prestatyn’s fortunes with the Seasiders currently bottom of Cymru North after nine straight league defeats.
