In happier times: Neil Gibson celebrates a Prestatyn win

Prestatyn Town manager Neil Gibson has left the club.

Gibson’s departure follows a host of players saying farewell to the Cymru North outfit in recent times.

Today it was announced brothers Zebb Edwards and Kai Edwards had left Prestatyn.

During the summer last season’s top scorers, Rob Hughes and Jordan Davies, signed for Flint Town United and AFC Telford United respectively.

Former skipper Alex Jones joined Flint in midweek.

With so many of last season’s Cymru North title-winning side departing, and now manager Gibson on his way, it is clear all is not well at Bastion Gardens.

Long-serving officials Martin Jones, Leigh Williams and Tony O’Reilly, as well as general manager Leon Field, have also recently left the club.

In a statement on Gibson’s resignation, chairman Jamie Welsh said: “It is with regret today that the club accepted the resignation of first team manager Neil Gibson.

“Chairman Jamie Welsh would like to go on record and thank Gibbo for all his work with the first team and academy and wish him well for the future.

“It is unclear (as) to when we can return to playing competitive football. It must be frustrating for managers, players and supporters at all clubs, not just ours.

“I would like to reinsure (sic) all the supporters that I will start the search as of now for the right manager to move the club forward.
“There will be no further comment from the club.”

Gibson had two spells in charge of Prestatyn. Between 2007-08 and 2018, he led the club to two Cymru Alliance titles and eight seasons in the Welsh Premier League.

The team also won the Welsh Cup for the first time in their history in 2012-13 and were victorious in their first-ever European tie.

Gibson stepped down in January 2018 but returned in 2018-19 and last season guided Town to a third Cymru Alliance title, but the club was refused promotion to the Welsh Premier on criteria grounds.
