Two of CPD Y Rhyl 1879’s most experienced and accomplished players have committed themselves to the club for the rest of the season.
Captain Reece Fairhurst and Tom Kemp both played in the Cymru Premier and Cymru North before joining the Lilywhites.
Both agreed to stay at the Hops and Barley Stadium for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign today, a move warmly welcomed by Rhyl 1879, who reluctantly released twin stars Alex Jones and James Jones at the weekend.
Fairhurst, 30, has been an 1879 player since the club launched in the 2021-22 season.
He has made more than 100 appearances for a team he led to the North Wales Coast East Premier Division title and Cookson Cup double in their first season.
Before joining the Lilywhites, Fairhurst scored the goal which delivered the Cymru North title for Prestatyn Town in 2016-17.
He has also represented the Seasiders and the former Rhyl FC in the national Welsh Premier.
Kemp, 29, rejoined 1879 this season after helping Prestatyn Town survive in the Cymru North last term.
The former Everton prospect previously represented Prestatyn in the Welsh Premier and Uefa Europa League.
He has also worn the colours of Flint Town United in the Cymru Premier and was in the same Prestatyn squad as Fairhurst which landed the 2016-17 Cymru North title.
Both Fairhurst and Kemp put in an impressive defensive performance for Rhyl 1879 in Saturday’s 6-0 win over Felinheli.
An 1879 club statement said tonight: “We’re delighted to share the news that club captain Reece Fairhurst and Tom Kemp have committed to 1879 for the remainder of the 24/25 season.
“As we strive for promotion to tier 2 this is fantastic news for everyone connected to the club.”
