NORTH EAST WALES FOOTBALL LEAGUE – REPORTS OCTOBER 19, 2024

CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION

Bellevue 4 Deeside Dragons 2

Adi Shiire scored all four goals as Bellevue celebrated their first league win of the season.

Nicknamed ‘The Somali Assassin’, the new fans’ hero at Court Road benefited from assists by goalkeeper Lewis Irvine, Nathan Taylor and Rhys Lloyd (2).

It was the perfect start for Martyn John in his first game in charge as new head coach and Anthony Davies on his debut as captain.

The win lifted Bellevue out of the Championship’s bottom three.

Acton 1 Sychdyn United 2

Goals from Jordan Walker and sub Adam Woosey won the day for Sychdyn after they had trailed to a first-minute own goal from Daniel Mountstephen.

Deeside United 4 Skippy 1

Back-to-back wins for United thanks to goals from Jack Smallcross, Bailey Hamilton, plus subs Kieren Ellams and Khyan Barton, Taylor Edwards replying.

Johnstown YFC 2 Holywell United 0

Tom Reeves and Callum Poole banked the goals which meant maximum spoils for Johnstown.

Rhydymwyn 4 Overton Recreational 2

Nathan Williams, Kallum Pierce, Thomas Chamberlain and Tomos Cummings were all on the mark for winners Rhydymwyn, who had Karl Bacon red-carded on 44 minutes.

Overton led twice through a Matty Tombs double.

PREMIER DIVISION

Coedpoeth United 4 Greenfield 1

Coedpoeth hit top spot in the Premier with a great win in this clash of high-flyers at Stansty Park.

The young Coedy team started well and grabbed the lead on 11 minutes with man of the match Callum Roberts finishing from close range.

Greenfield steadied themselves and got back into the game in the 35th minute after some good possession play

However, it was a mistake from a Coedy defender which allowed the pacy Connor Hughes a straight run in on goal and he finished with confidence to make it 1-1.

The hosts created some good chances with young Iwan Bennett showing lovely touches and Josh Jones lashed a fierce shot in to give Coedy a lift to go in 2-1 half time.

Coedy carved out some good chances in the second half and goal poacher Adam Lloyd followed up a header from Ollie Lewis which hit the bar for a simple nod-in on the rebound after 62 minutes.

An unfortunate Jack Gibbons own goal from a United cross completed the scoring.

FC Queen’s Park 1 Mynydd Isa 3

Fine win on the road for Mynydd Isa with Iwan Rogers, Shaun Tinsley and Dan Wainwright bagging the goals, Sean Humphreys having brought the Park level just before half time.

Saltney Town 4 Ruabon Rovers 1

Leon Flatman struck first for Saltney, Joshua Hughes levelled on 31 minutes, but Steve Lewis’ fifth goal in four games since joining the club gave the Bordermen a half time advantage.

Second-half strikes from John James King and sub Anthony Humphreys sealed it for the home side.

NEWFA SENIOR MEN’S CHALLENGE CUP ROUND TWO

Lex XI 5 Rhostyllen 3

Four goals from Kian Davies helped guide in-form Lex into the next round of the NEWFA Challenge Cup.

Sub Alex Palmer also netted for the Law, with Cameron Thomas providing three assists.

Liam Sklenar, Steven Jones and captain Drew Wickens replied for Rhostyllen.

RESERVE DIVISION GROUP A

Ruthin Town Colts 2 CPD Rhos Aelwyd Reserves 2

Sub Carter Dineen grabbed a point for Rhos with an equaliser nine minutes into added time beyond the 90.

Sion Williams scored both for Ruthin, Iwan Lloyd being Aelwyd’s other marksman.

RESERVE DIVISION GROUP B

Brymbo Reserves 0 Castell Alun Colts Reserves 3

Ben Williams (pen), Kieran Edwards and Elliott Moore nabbed the goals that mattered for visitors Casty.

Coedpoeth United Reserves 6 Johnstown YFC Reserves 2

Six goals for winners Coedy, one apiece for Joe Colley, Ben Griffiths, Eryk Osinski, Kevin Breeze, Ross Hardy-Partington and Nick McCormick, Rhys Davies and Kirk Ratcliffe responding.

Connah’s Quay Town XI 11 FC Queen’s Park Reserves 0

Liam Wild led the rout with four goals for Town in this double-figure triumph.

Kyle Harte and Jake Williams added two each, Jon Tear-Edmonds and sub Kyle Shaw contributed singles, plus there was an own goal from Dylan Darbyshire.

Mynydd Isa Reserves 2 Greenfield Reserves 0

Progression for Isa thanks to goals from Oliver Howarth (pen) and Joshua Holmes.

NEWFL MIKE BEECH MEMORIAL TROPHY

Penyffordd Lions Reserves 1 Llangollen Town Reserves 1
(Llangollen won 4-1 on pens)

Sam Antrobus handed Llangollen a sixth-minute lead, but Joe Henry equalised on the 90 to force a shootout which Town won.
