SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5
FAW RESERVE LEAGUE NORTH EAST
Connah’s Quay Nomads U18s 4-5 Denbigh Town Reserves
Report: Ollie Beech
What a result for Denbigh – 5-4 winners away to a Nomads side which had not lost in 10 months.
Star of the show was hat-trick-hero Harrison Bellis, signed by Denbigh Town in the summer after netting 68 goals for tier 5 Y Glannau last season.
Nomads, undefeated since December of last year, began the game top of the table with seven wins from seven and faced a Town side in progression.
Denbigh started well and their pressure told on 11 minutes, Serhad Kanli darting down the right before setting up Bellis to finish from close range.
On 24 minutes a defensive blunder from the visitors led to Tom Malcolm finishing with ease to level the scores.
Less than a minute later, Town restored the advantage when captain Lewis Devine fed the ball down the right for Osian Jones. His quick feet saw him beat his man before crossing and sub Tom Salisbury, on for the injured Kanli, was able to smash home.
In the 36th minute Bellis made it 3-1 with a strike from a ridiculous angle which beat goalkeeper Elliot Collins.
Denbigh were in dreamland in stoppage time when Salisbury nicked the ball and from the edge of the box sent a floated effort over the head of the keeper to make it 4-1 at half time.
Soaking up plenty of pressure after the restart, suddenly the ball broke for Denbigh and Bellis found himself in a foot race with the ‘keeper, which he won, and completed his hat-trick to make it 5-1.
Nomads upped their act and pulled it back to 5-4 with goals Adam Jones, James Hughes and Ryan Williams, but Denbigh held on for a famous win.
