NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE BETTY PICKERING CUP

Group 1

Kinmel Bay 2 (Chesters 36, 65)
Denbigh Town 2 (L Roberts 63, C Davies 90+1)

Catrin Davies’ 91st minute equaliser rescued a point for Denbigh in a cracking clash at Y Morfa.

Kinmel Bay started strongly, holding much of the possession in the first 20 minutes.

The hosts kept pushing forward, but could not find the back of the net from six shots fired. Denbigh keeper Young did well to save the majority with the rest slightly off target.

There was no let up from Naomii Oakley’s side, though, and on 36 minutes the onform Amy Chesters found the net with a fine shot.

Half-Time: Kinmel Bay 1-0 Denbigh Town

The second half started with Bay still dominating. Skipper Lucy Perry’s shot was comfortably saved before Seren Williams’ thunderous strike just cleared the bar.

Minutes later young Chloe Scanlan raced forward and hit an effort which was again gathered by the Denbigh keeper.

Town were still well in contention at 1-0 down and on 63 minutes they equalised. Young’s long ball found the meet of Lois Roberts, whose lob cleared keeper Shelby Wild to make it 1-1.

Two minutes later, Bay were back in front. Some lovely link up play between Seren Williams and Georgia Williams enabled Chesters again to find the back of the net.

At 70 minutes Bay were still holding strong, but suffered a blow when solid centre back Sarah Williams went over on her ankle and was subsequently subbed off. Already missing defender Jen Small, this is a knockback to the Bay.

Seren Williams almost made it 3-1 with a well-timed shot which clipped the post and went wide.

Time was running out when Denbigh put on the pressure and from a final corner of the game, Catrin Davies levelled things up.

Caernarfon Town 1 CPDM Llanystumdwy 3

Mum and daughter Sarah and Leonie O’Hara

Supermum Sarah O’Hara provided the highlight of a great day for Llanystumdwy by scoring the decisive third goal for the visitors on the hour at The Oval.

The 44-year-old mum-of-nine, who hinted at retirement last season but has remained on the books this term, made it 3-1 after coming on as a second half substitute.

It was her first goal for Llanystumdwy since November 13, 2022. The opposition that day was…ironically….Caernarfon Town in a 2-1 win.

After Sunday’s result, Llan are unbeaten in four matches and sit top of their Betty Pickering Cup group.

Captain Tash Matthews struck on 14 minutes via a Heledd Savage assist to put the visitors ahead.

Caernarfon hit back with 28 gone through Amber Brown, but Angharad Perry edged the Parc Dwyfor outfit back in front just before half time.

O’Hara mum and daughter, Sarah and Leonie, came on for the second half and the changes would make quite an impact.

Annest Roberts was first to reach a Matthews free kick, and Sarah O’Hara pounced with a left-footed corker into the top corner from just inside the box.

Group 2

Northop Hall 3 Airbus UK Broughton 5

Sixteen-year-old substitute Freya Peatfield made a dramatic entry after coming on as an 85th minute substitute and scoring twice in quick succession to seal Airbus three Betty Pickering Cup points.

Having beaten Northop Hall 7-0 in a league game three weeks earlier, Sunday’s return in Shotton proved to be much closer and it needed the late impact of Peatfield to settle the issue.

In an excellent first half, Taylor Roberts handed Hall a 14th minute lead, Ffion Jones levelled and then provided the assist for Laura Pratt to make it 2-1.

However, Roberts made it two-apiece in the 43rd minute.

Just a minute into the second half, the 17-year-old Pratt edged the Wingmakers 3-2 up, Holly Cooper assisting.

Any result was still possible until Peatfield came on and bagged that quick double on 87 and 88 minutes, Ruby Ellis and Catrin Ellis with the assists.

Although Northop Hall finished up losers, it was at least a good day for Taylor Roberts, who completed her hat-trick in the 90th minute.

Group 3

Amlwch Town 0 Llangefni Town 8

Jess Jones and Ellie Coulson both scored hat-tricks as Llangefni rattled up eight at Lon Bach against a home side which had the bare 11.

It was 3-0 at half time, Coulson striking on 2 and 26, while Jones found the net after eight.

Nia Ginnelly bagged Cefni’s fourth three minutes into the second half and Jones added two penalties to put her on 15 goals for the season.

Hannah Owen also found the mark before Coulson rounded things off with her personal treble and eighth goal of the campaign.

Group 4

Welshpool Town 0 Berriew 5

Comfortable for Berriew with Hannah Richards, Katie Price, Gemma Jones, sub Teleri Roberts and captain Eleri Davies on target.

The Rheiwsiders could also afford the luxury of a Samantha Jones missed penalty after 50 minutes.
