Guto Gwenallt’s 89th minute strike sealed Llanystumdwy a first league win of the campaign after a real midweek thriller.
And what a team to achieve it against – previously unbeaten high flyers Cemaes Bay.
Sion Parry’s side, promoted to tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier this season, had lost their first four league matches, but bounced back in style at Treborth, Bangor, on Wednesday.
Llan were outstanding in the first half, taking a 3-0 lead.
Owen Pritchard broke the deadlock from the penalty spot on 26 minutes, Guto Griffith made it two after 30 and Arwyn Jones notched a third with 38 on the clock.
Cemaes revived their hopes through a Dan Jones reply three minutes before half time.
In the second half, Rhys Lloyd made it 3-2 on 80, then two minutes later it was all-square courtesy of Luke McGivern.
Surely the momentum was now with the form side Cemaes, who would have been many people’s favourites to go on and win.
However, there was a late twist in the tale. After Bay’s Morgan Rowlands saw red on 87, Gwenallt grabbed the decider two minutes later.
Saturday, September 14
Mynydd Llandegai 2-3 Bethesda Athletic
Six wins from six starts so far for leaders Bethesda, but they endured perhaps their toughest test yet against local rivals Llandegai.
Liam Willighan struck first for Mynydd on 15 minutes, but Cian Williams equalised on the half-hour to make it 1-1 at the interval.
Osian Hughes and Joe Todd both netted early in the second half to put Athletic in command, but an injury time second for the hosts from Jamie Whitmore made sure of a close finish.
Cemaes Bay 2-0 CPD Nefyn United
Goals from Rhys Lloyd and Luke McGivern, after 13 and 78 minutes respectively, guided Cemaes to a fine home victory over Nefyn.
Gwalchmai 3-0 CPD Pentraeth
Three second half goals banked Gwalchmai the points at Meas Meurig.
The hosts had a chance to take a 12th minute lead, but Connor Owen was denied from the penalty spot.
Leo Owen had a fantastic game in goal for Pentraeth and was deservedly named their man of the match.
Ten minutes into the second half, the hosts edged ahead when an assist from keeper Kenny Hughes ended in a goal for Connor Owen – his eighth of the season.
Ieuan Lloyd made it 2-0 after 63 and sub Marc Evans completed the scoring on 78 with his sixth goal of 2024-25.
CPD Llanberis 1-1 CPD Boded
Caio Thomas rescued a point for Llanberis with an 87th minute equaliser after captain Chris Jones’ first goal of the season had edged Boded in front on 69.
CPD Llannerchymedd 2-3 CPD Bontnewydd
Aled Hughes delivered a 90th minute decider for Bontnewydd at Cae Tan Parc.
Callum Roberts gave Llannerchymedd a 10th minute lead, but Osian Tomlinson levelled on 20 and Meilir Rowlands put the visitors ahead on the half-hour.
Ben Hughes’ 52nd minute penalty made it 2-2 and it looked like a draw would be the outcome before Aled Hughes plundered the winner via an Alex Kalafusz assist.
Llanrug United 3-1 CPD Penrhyndeudraeth
Jonathan Sadler (2) and Deion Hughes supplied the goals which secured Llanrug a home win over Penrhyndeudraeth, for whom Gwion Davies responded on 70 minutes to make it 2-1.
Hughes’ 84th minute strike settled it.
