Hail! Hail! the great news – Amy Richardson will make her Celtic debut this evening!
North Wales defender Amy Richardson will make her Scottish Women’s Premier League debut for Celtic at Montrose tonight.
The 18-year-old from Penrhyn Bay, who signed a three-year deal with the SWPL title-holders in June, has so far only made the bench in the Ghirls’ Uefa Champions League campaign.
This evening, however, she has been named in the starting XI for the match at Links Park, which kicks off at 7.30 pm.
Celtic, who won the SWPL title for the first time last season, are unbeaten so far this term with five wins and a draw in their six league matches, but currently sit fourth behind Rangers, Hearts and Glasgow City.
A win tonight, however, will put Elena Sadiku’s hoops top of the standings.
Amy has been recovering from an injury she picked up in a pre-season friendly in Sweden, but was part of the squads which beat KuPS of Finland and hosts Gintra of Lithuania to reach the Champions League next stage.
Left-sided defender Amy, who started playing football at the age of 6. developed her talents through representing Glanwydden FC, Llandudno Girls, Penrhyn Bay Girls, then Llandudno Boys Academy alongside the FAW North Trust Academy.
Formerly with Liverpool Academy, she earned a one year training contract with Manchester United where she trained with the under 16’s and U21’s. From there I moved to Everton, where she stayed for two years before joining Celtic.
Amy has represented Wales up to under-19 level and was recently part of a full senior camp.
