The spotlight was on a North Wales footballer when the American team she represents held a special media day.

Defender Sienna Strapp, 19, from Hawarden was unveiled as one of Life University’s 2024-25 squad at a gathering in Marietta, Georgia.

For the next four years, she will be studying for a degree in sports psychology while being a full time athlete at the uni based around 20 minutes from Atlanta.

Sienna is best known in North Wales for her two seasons with Connah’s Quay Nomads, where she scooped two NEWFA Challenge Cup winners’ medals and played a key role in the Deesiders finishing runners-up in the tier 2 Genero Adran North League in 2022-23.

Talking about her early experiences in the USA, Sienna said: “We’ve had two preseason scrimmages (friendlies) – we lost one 2-0 and drew the other 1-1.

“We have been training everyday to get ready for our season tonight.  We are playing Bethel University in our first league game.”

Summer 2023 saw Sienna signed up by FA Women’s National League North Tier 3 club Stoke City. She spent a season with the club developing her skills and experience before beginning a new adventure in America.
