NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE – AUGUST 10

PREMIER DIVISION

Glan Conwy 1 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 6

Six of the best from a Phoenix side which followed up Welsh Cup and FAW Trophy wins with league success to make it three straight victories since the season began.

The hosts started brightest, Sam Birchall’s cross from the right headed home by Lewis Brownson in the 18th minute.

Phoenix equalised in the 31st minute when Birchall brought down Daniel Williams inside the box.

Debutant Kyle Cooper stepped up to take the penalty but missed, however the referee judged home keeper Mike Peters had moved off his line before the kick was taken.

Cooper had a second chance and made no mistake in finding the bottom corner.

Penmaenmawr took the lead in the 41st minute when Ricky Jones found Harley Crossfield, who finished calmly to make it 2-1 at the break.

The visitors increased the tempo in the second half and really put pressure on Glan Conwy. Pen were rewarded in the 51st minute when Crossfield picked the ball up out wide, cutting in and firing into the top corner.

In the 85th minute substitute Jamie Jones set up James Hobson, whose scuffed shot from the edge of the box found the net.

Jones, playing against his former club, got himself on the scoresheet in the 87th minute when the winger was unmarked at the back post and smashed the ball into the net.

Cooper finished the game off in style with a 40-yard beauty.

Ashley Black and Sean Sheridan (penalty) put Llysfaen two-up after half time before Stan Farrell responded for Bay with a late consolation.

Winning manager Sam Ashton said: “Great win today for the lads, Three points is what we wanted and that’s what we got.

“We were comfortable in the game and never really troubled. In all honesty I think we could have put the game to bed in the first half if it wasn’t for some sloppy football.

“Second half we perked up and got stronger. We weren’t at our best today but again we got the win.”
