Get ready for a few words Grassroots North Wales always publish with glee – a new women’s football team is starting up!
Coedpoeth United aim to field a side in the North Wales Women’s League this season.
This will make them the only women’s grassroots side operating in the Wrexham area, with Bellevue having decided to withdraw for the 2024-25 campaign.
Coedpoeth United is a thriving club and the addition of a female adults team will only strengthen its community presence.
Coedy chairman Mark Hughes explained that some of last season’s Bellevue players will be involved in the Coedpoeth team, with some new faces also set to join in the fun.
“We’ll probably have 18 in the squad initially, but a few new ones will be coming to training,” said Mr Hughes.
“We are seeking any funding and sponsorship we can as they literally have just a few balls at this stage.
“We will start playing at Bellevue Park initially.
“As a club we now have 21 teams and over 350 players and play across 8 different sites, and we play on Wrexham council pitches.
“We had 18 teams last season and it’s getting difficult to find pitches. We feel it’s time the FAW helped grassroots clubs like ours, so we are having meetings with a rep from the FAW and BeActive next week.”
Training is at Bellevue Park 6pm to 8 pm on Tuesdays, with a second session coming up next week.
“We are also looking for a qualified coach / manager for them, but hope to get in three if the players will run it in the short term,” added the chairman.
