Rhos-on-Sea A team bowlers thought they had secured victory in the Colwyn and Llandudno Section B League Cup Final 2024 against Rhuddlan at Vardre, Deganwy but a shock was in store.

The final scorecard showed Rhuddlan 206 (Elfyn Jones 21/11) Rhos-on-Sea A 230 (Peter Abrahams 21/7, Ivan Drinkwater 21/9). In fact, Tommy Roberts, League Management Official, had already presented the winning team with their trophy before certain matters came to light the next day.

According to an eagle-eyed Colwyn and Llandudno League official, Rhos-on-Sea A had inexplicably fielded two ineligible players.

As a consequence, the combined winning scores of these players amounting to 30 points would be deducted from their team’s aggregate total and subsequently treated as walkovers, in line with the respective ruling of the league’s constitution.

The revised scorecard showed Rhuddlan 206: Rhos-on-Sea 200. The official decision was taken to award Clwb Bowlio Rhuddlan with the trophy for 2024.

Mike Elgin, Rhuddlan BC chair and team captain, sportingly commented: “We don’t like winning matches in this way but rules are rules and have to be applied.
