Cymru Premier results in Europe boost Wales’ hopes of extra club place in 2026-27
Success for Cymru Premier sides in Europe this week has certainly boosted the nation’s standing in the Uefa ranking table.
Caernarfon Town’s 2-0 victory over Crusaders and Connah’s Quay Nomads’ superb 1-0 triumph at Slovenia’s NK Bravo in the Conference League, as well as The New Saints’ 3-0 beating of FK Dečić of Montenegro in the Champions League, has edged Wales back into the top 50.
This week’s three wins have added +0.750 points and moved Wales from 50th to 48th place.
Finishing in the Top 50 would secure Cymru four European spots again in the 2026/27 season.
Cymru have just three places allocated in European competitions for 2025-26.
In 2025-26, the JD Cymru Premier will receive one berth in the UEFA Champions League and two in the UEFA Conference League.
The JD Cymru Premier champions will still qualify for the UEFA Champions League and the JD Welsh Cup winner will still reach the UEFA Conference League.
The third and final spot in the UEFA Conference League will still be decided by a play-off, in order to protect the format of the league having a play-off with purpose.
As such, the JD Cymru Premier runner-up would not automatically qualify for European competition.
This week, Wales, Gibraltar and Estonia have already made in the first leg of 1QR more points than the 2023-24 season.
