At the start of 2023-24 Grassroots North Wales picked out 12 players across the football pyramid to watch in the season ahead.

So, how did they do? Pretty well overall, everyone had a positive to offer and these lads are welcome back at our school anytime!

Callum Queen (Holyhead Town)

Callum is 18 today (June 18) so wishing him a very happy birthday.
A 2023-24 season which started well for Holyhead Town ended in disappointment, but Callum showed up really well, netting 10 goals in 21 North Wales Coast West Division One games.
Young talent with plenty of attacking skill to offer, he will no doubt progress in 2024-25.

Tomos Clarke (Bangor 1876)

Powerful central defender who had a fine first season for Bangor 1876 in the Cymru North, Michael Johnston’s promoted side finishing an excellent fifth.
Tom, who already had Tier 2 experience, played 28 matches in all over the 2023-24 campaign and chipped in with three goals

Tom Weir (Prestatyn Town)

Tom Weir joined Prestatyn Town in January 2024 but will be a Colwyn Bay player next season

Scored the goal which kept Prestatyn in the Cymru North, earning them a 2-2 draw in their final game against Gresford. That point proved enough for the Seasiders to stay up.
Tom began the 2023-24 campaign at Denbigh Town. playing 22 matches and scoring seven goals, before moving to Prestatyn in January.
He scored the winner on debut for the Seasiders against Porthmadog and went on to feature in 14 games, netting four times.
Another good season for this gifted player, who joined Colwyn Bay on June 1.

Antonio Jacovelli (NFA)

What a fantastic first season with NFA!
Antonio netted 26 goals in 33 matches across all competitions, while his team NFA won the Tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division title at the first attempt and he scored 15 times in 21 league outings.
Was joint-fourth top scorer in the Premier overall. Has the quality to shine brightly in Tier 3.
Rounded off the season with a magnificent hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Llanfairfechan.

Sam Gregson (Holyhead Hotspur)

Played in just five games for Hotspur this season, including two FAW Amateur Trophy wins.
Gregson returned to America to play for the New York State Buffalo Bengals, having previously enjoyed great success with Onondaga University.
One of the stars of Ynys Môn’s silver medal performance in the Island Games last summer.

Calyn Spencer (Flint Mountain)

Despite having injuries at a couple of stages of last season, Calyn came through to play a starring role in Mountain’s amazing success, which brought them the Tier 3 Ardal North West title, the NEWFA Challenge Cup, runners-up in the Ardal Northern Cup and a Welsh Cup quarter-final spot.
He also assisted the reserves in their outstanding campaign which saw them lift the NEWFA Reserve Cup and finish runners-up in the FAW Reserve League North Tier 3.
Over the season, Calyn played 37 first team games and scored seven goals.
Calyn has joined Chester and Wirral Football League club Waggon and Horses for the 2024-25 season.

Adam Hold (Conwy Borough)

Scored eight goals in 20 games for Rhyl 1879 before switching to Conwy Borough in February in pursuit of more game time.
Made 14 appearances for Boro, scoring four times and playing an important role in the club remaining in Tier 3 Ardal North West.
Adam recently committed to Tier 4 Penmaenmawr Phoenix for the 2024-25 season.
Whichever club signs this player they get a committed, exciting, attack-minded winger who will give his all.

Morgan Jones (Pwllheli)

Joined Pwllheli at the start of 2023-24 from Porthmadog and had a fine season for The Rec outfit, playing in 35 matches.
Helped Pwll finish 11th in Tier 3 Ardal North West, and they looked capable of a higher placing for much of the campaign, especially at the start of January when they beat Holyhead Hotspur, CPD Y Rhyl 1879, Hawarden Rangers, Llangefni Town and St Asaph City in quick succession.
Morgan produced many top-class displays and pulled off numerous trademark cracking saves over the season.

Osian Jones (Llangefni Town)

Joined Tier 3 Llangefni at the start of 2023-24 and was a standout performer, scoring nine times in 32 matches.
Ensured Cefni rounded off the campaign on a winning note with the decisive goal in a 2-1 triumph at Llanrwst United.
Helped Town finish a more than respectable eighth in Tier 3 Ardal North West, one of his best displays coming in a 4-1 victory at CPD Y Rhyl 1879, where he scored a cracker.

Kallum Pierce (CPD Gronant)

A marvellous first season in front of goal for a player who joined North East Wales League Championship runners-up Gronant at the start of the campaign.
Notched 38 goals for Aston Park Rangers last season, and equalled that figure with his new club.
Scored 32 league goals and provided 21 assists. Ended third in the North East Wales League Championship scorers chart.
Kallum pocketed five hat-tricks in 2023-24, including a six and a five, also helping his team win promotion to the North East Wales League Premier Division.

Chris Smyth (Mochdre Sports)

Performances were limited due to injuries, but when available he was excellent in front of goal, scoring eight times in 17 appearances.
Was also able to offer his talents to the Mochdre Vets team on occasion.

Luis Hughes (Cefn Albion)

Eighteen-year-old defender who was voted Players’ Player of the Season for Cefn Albion Reserves in 2023-24.
He received the award for his ‘hard work and dedication’ over the season.
Also made some first team appearances which suggests he could be one to watch in the season ahead.
