Chirk AAA’s recently-appointed manager Lawrence Wilson has stood down after just six weeks in charge.

The disappointed Colliers have acted quickly in engaging reserve team bosses Tom Roberts and Anthony Jones as the new first team chiefs.

As a result, Chirk has decided to withdraw its reserve side from all competitions.

Wilson took on the Holyhead Road club’s first team manager role on May 6, but Chirk announced yesterday he has resigned already.

The club will operate in Tier 3 Ardal North East in 2024-25 after being relegated from the Cymru North last term.

In a statement, Chirk AAA said: “The club are very disappointed to announce that first team manager Lawrence Wilson has decided to step down from the position with immediate effect.

“Following this decision the club have appointed Tom Roberts and Anthony Jones as the new management team. They will be ably assisted by Phil Pearce and Matthew Cooke.

“Tom and Anthony have been Reserve team management for several years now and are making the step up.

Anthony Jones

“Tom is currently completing his UEFA C Licence and with Anthony, Phil and Cookie all having a solid Chirk footballing background, it is hoped the locals will back the appointment.

“The club have subsequently decided to withdraw the Reserve side from all competition.

“We hope all the players and  supporters get behind the new management team as the club looks to stabilise in the Ardal North East League.

“This season the club has entered an under 17 side in the newly formed NEWJFL U17 League. This is seen as a positive step forward and as a stepping stone between youth and senior football which will help secure the future of the club.

“As well as competing in the league, the team will also compete in the FAW Welsh Youth Cup, League and NEWFA Cups.

“The team will be run by Tom Roberts, Mark Holmes and Ian Evans.”
