There must be some magical qualities flowing in the water at Flint.
The North Wales coast town has just celebrated a truly magnificent football season at many levels.
Successes include:
* Flint Town United returning to the Cymru Premier at the first attempt
* Flint Mountain winning the Tier 3 Ardal North West title to secure promotion to the Cymru North and lifting the NEWFA Challenge Cup
* Flint Town United women lifting the North Wales League East Division title with an invincible record of 12 straight wins in just their second season as a team
* Flint girl Mayzee Davies winning her first full Wales cap
* Flint Town United flying the flag for the north in the FAW Youth Cup, reaching the semi finals.
After being relegated from the Cymru Premier in 2022-23, Flint Town United bounced straight back the following season.
With Cymru North champions Holywell Town ineligible for promotion, Flint regained top level status after finishing runners-up in the Tier 2 league.
It was a rich reward for manager Lee Fowler, who benefited from some great signings, including Cymru North Player of the Year and 33-goal top scorer Elliott Reeves. Sol Forde and Luis Lacey were nominated in the Young Player category.
Top Goalscorer – Elliott Reeves
Committee Player of the Season – Jake Phillips
Manager’s Player of the Season – Sol Forde
Kevin Loftus Trophy for Young Player of the Season (voted for by Supporters) – Ben Hughes
Chairman’s Player of the Season – Jake Phillips
Supporters’ Player of the Season – Elliott Reeves
Players’ Player of the Season – Elliott Reeves
What a season for Aden Shannon’s side!
In just their second campaign at Tier 3 Ardal North West level, Mountain were crowned champions to earn promotion to the Cymru North.
Not only that, Mountain beat three Cymru North sides on their way to lifting the NEWFA Challenge Cup, including mighty Mold Alexandra 3-2 in the final.
The Flintshire club were also runners-up in the Ardal Northern League Cup and reached the quarter-finals of the Welsh Cup.
Added to this, Flint Mountain Reserves scooped the NEWFA Reserves Cup and when the fixtures ended in the FAW Cymru Reserve Tier 3 North League, they were in second spot.
Top-scorer Mike Hayes proved to be one of the signings of the season, the former Connah’s Quay Nomads, Caernarfon Town and Bala Town striker bagging 32 goals.
Adding some quality summer signings to the class already on board set up Flint’s women for a magnificent 2023-24.
They won the North Wales Women’s League East Division title with a perfect record of 12 straight wins, with a massive 66 goals scored and a miserly 10 conceded.
New face Zoe Stopford stood out with her 27 goals, but fresh recruits like defender Emily Edwards, striker Tegan Crockett and Ruby Hastings also made their mark.
The Hughes sisters – Rosie, Daisy and Chloe – were key players, Rosie providing 19 goals and 21 assists, classy midfielders Jennifer Haynes and skipper Ruby McGilloway were outstanding and goalkeeper Becky Bott was immense. Taylia Chaloner also excelled at the back, but overall it was a superb all-round squad effort.
Although Flint lost in the North Wales League regions play-off final and the Betty Pickering Cup to Pwllheli, the season ended on a real high with the news they have been accepted for promotion to the Tier 2 Genero Adran North.
The youngsters of Flint had a magnificent run to the FAW Youth Cup semi-finals.
In the first round, they defeated Wrexham AFC Youth 3-0, George Maire (2) and Harry Cartwright with the goals, then whipped Aberystwyth Town Development 6-1 in the next stage, Harley Brindley-Peagram (2), Cartwright, Ben Hughes (2) and Harvey Drazdauskas sharing the riches.
In round three, the Silkmen hammered Sully Sports Youth 9-0, Drazdauskas (2), Hughes (2), Maire (2), Cartwright, Morgan Roberts and Spaniard Felipe White making up the rout.
The quarter-finals brought a tremendous 4-1 triumph over The New Saints Development, Hughes, Cartwright, Maire and Brindley-Peagram notching one apiece.
In the semis, which Flint reached for a third season in a row, they went down 3-0 to Briton Ferry Llansawel Under-19 Academy, but what a run it was from the North Wales lads.
The 17-year-old Manchester United defender made her senior debut for Wales in April.
Mayzee replaced Josie Green in the 77th minute of a 2025 European Women’s Championship – WEQ League Stage Group B4 tie in Kosovo, which Wales won 6-0.
The game included two late goals from Hawarden hero Elise Hughes.
Mayzee was first selected for Wales’ senior squad by then interim head coach Jon Grey in February.
She is the daughter of former Flint Town United, Chester City, Airbus UK, Colwyn Bay and Holywell Town defender John Davies.
