Wonderful season at all levels for Trearddur Bay continues with Development Cup joy

NWCFA DEVELOPMENT CUP FINAL – MAY 29, 2024
Penmaenmawr Phoenix Development 2 (Crossfield 27, D Williams 62)
Trearddur Bay Development 4 (Rowlands 18, Webb 56, Morris 65, Gregg 74)
Triple trophy heaven for Trearddur after the first team and under-15s winning their respective league titles was followed up by the Development side lifting the most prestigious cup available to them on Wednesday night.
Cae Stanley, Bontnewydd, was the venue for the NWCFA Development Cup Final between Penmaenmawr Phoenix and Trearddur Bay.
Two very good teams clashed in the showpiece. Bay travelled with a good young squad expecting to face an experienced Phoenix – and that’s exactly what they got.
The first 45 minutes were closely contested with both teams having chances and at times play turned scrappy with challenges flying in.
Trearddur got the first goal through Jenson Rowlands before Harley Crossfield made it 1-1 nine minutes later.
Bay manager Scott Hakesley said after the game: “Into the break 1-1 and the gameplay working, we spoke at half time that for the next 10 minutes we needed full work-rate.”
A substitution with a change of shape brought an instant impact when Thomas Lennon, the youngest player on the pitch at 16 and man of the match on the night, found substitute Dave Webb to slot home for 2-1.
Phoenix levelled again through Daniel Williams on 62, but something special was in the air among the Anglesey team and a Casey Gregg corner found Adam Morris to make it 3-2 after 65.
The diagonal ball was catching Pen out constantly in the latter stages and Cameron Buckley fed Gregg to make it 4-2 with 74 on the clock.
Winning boss Hakesley added: “There were 15 minutes left and the lads were showing their fitness and starting to enjoy the occasion and showed why they’re cup winners with great attitude and play.
“A great final was had by all. It’s been a long season and was finished in style as the lads celebrated long into the night
“Thanks to Penmaenmawr Phoenix for a great game. We wish them all the best for the future.”
