After nearly two months of the crown green bowling season 2024 played albeit in mixed weather, Clwb Bowlio Rhuddlan Bowling Club chair Mike Elgin has praised the performances of all teams thus far.

“Pre-season recruitment of additional quality players certainly seems to be paying off,” reports Mike. “This is borne out with the recent successes not only of Rhuddlan A teams but also results attained at each B team level, a tribute to all teams captains.”

Mike added: “As a progressive club who never rests on its laurels, Rhuddlan BC is always in the market for players of any gender, age and ability, not least at junior level. Beginners to the sport receive regular high-quality coaching from our very active qualified assistant club coaches.”

In the Clwydian Senior Citizens League, Rhuddlan A, under the captaincy of Shirley Capper, currently sit in fourth place in Division A while Rhuddlan B show improving form in Division D in their second season under the leadership of Arwel Roberts and Judith Thomas, having blooded several players new to the sport.

Shirley Capper’s Wednesday afternoon ladies’ Team are currently pacesetters in Division B of the Clwydian Ladies League hoping to go one better this season after finishing runners-up in 2023.

Mike Elgin’s Wednesday evening team, aiming to regain its Colwyn/Llandudno League Division A status, has made a good start too, and is also among the early pacesetters.

Rhuddlan field two teams in Thursday evening’s Clwyd League.

Iwan Davies’ A team is gradually improving in Division A. Max Richardson, Rhuddlan B team captain can be very proud, not only of his own individual recruitment efforts but also noteworthy recent performances by his suitably strengthened team.

Rhuddlan’s Saturday team seem intent on gaining their second successive league promotion with Caroline Evans now at the helm and currently sit proudly in third place in Division C.

Val Beaumont did very well on her recent deserved recall to the Welsh Counties’ Ladies team, winning her individual away game against Staffordshire at Burton-on-Trent.

Finally, Mike paid tribute to Iwan Davies, head groundsman and Les Capper and their grounds maintenance team for their continuous hard work in making Rhuddlan one of the finest greens in North Wales.

Anyone wishing to join Clwb Bowlio Rhuddlan may contact either chair Mike on 07932954906 or secretary Caroline on 07782400549 or can come along to the green on Monday afternoons. Spectators are always welcome at any Rhuddlan home match.
