Cricket club in desperate need of new sight screens organises fundraiser

Chirk Cricket Club are raising funds for new sight screens

A North Wales cricket club is organising a fundraising race night at their home ground in July to raise money for much-needed replacement sight screens.

Chirk CC are a community, inclusive-based club who were formed in 1867, making them one of the oldest in the north.

Club grants officer Andrew Edwards said “Unfortunately, we are in desperate need for help to replace our outdated sight screens.

“We purchased our current sightscreens as a stopgap from a local club in Oswestry in 2019 who had sadly folded. They are not fit for purpose going forward long-term and we require help to replace them.

“Sight screens are very important in cricket as they enable the batter to get a clear view of the ball from the bowler. Without this there could be an increased chance of injury.

“Any help we would receive will be much appreciated If you are kind enough to donate to our cause to obtain new sight screens, no matter how small.

“The race night at the AAA’s Club, Chirk on Saturday 6th July coincides with the potential of two of the home nations playing in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals that evening. So, we hope that the locals and club members will attend in numbers.

“We must place on thanks our eternal gratitude after extremely generous donations from Kronospan, J. Jervis Accountants, Gittins McDonald Solicitors and GHP Legal.

“Furthermore, the club can offer the following as a way to attract company sponsors to raise their target for two new sightscreens.

* Promotional opportunities on Twitter, Facebook, TikTok (which has had about 13,000 views in the last two weeks)
* Advertising boards at our ground on Holyhead Road
* We would also invite your company to our fundraising race night at Chirk AAA’s taking place on Saturday 6th July
* Companies also have the opportunity to sponsor a race on the night of Saturday 6th July

“Any potential company sponsors towards the sightscreen funding can contact  Andrew Edwards on 07828 013 025.”
