If Chirk Cricket Club are a little in the doldrums at the prospect of starting life in a lower division this season after last year’s relegation, they have just received the perfect pick-me-up.
All-rounder Andrew Swarbrick, possibly the club’s greatest ever player, has rejoined the Holyhead Road side for their 2026 campaign in Shropshire League Division 2.
A club legend with 5,000+ runs and more than 400 wickets, the 37-year-old brings huge experience, leadership and quality to Chirk.
Swarbrick ended a 23-year association with the club last season to sample life in the North Wales League Premier Division at then reigning champions Mochdre.
The left-arm quick took 31 league wickets at an average of 15.90 in a season where Mochdre finished third in the table. He has now decided to return to a place he so long called home.
Swarbrick holds numerous club records at Chirk and is also a highly-rated footballer.
He once scored a hat-trick in a Welsh Cup semi-final for Cefn Druids, while he also had successful spells with the likes of Denbigh Town and Ruabon Rovers.
Chirk CC begin their Division 2 campaign away to Alberbury on Saturday.
